Elisabeth Hasselbeck talks about motherhood reaffirming her beliefs

Elisabeth_2 The View’s co-host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, 30, talks to Pregnancy magazine about her conservative viewpoints and strong opinions. Elisabeth is pregnant with her second child, due November 11th. She says:

Being a conservative mother isn’t the challenge. Being a conservative in New York City on television is the challenge. Once I had Grace, I had more reassurance and affirmation as to why I have felt the things I’ve felt for a long time.

And as a mom, now I want to make sure that the decisions I’m making and the votes that I’m casting are going to create long-term benefits for Grace and my next child and hopefully more to come after that.

She and her husband, former New York Giants quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, 29, have a 2-year-old daughter, Grace.

The November issue of Pregnancy magazine on which Elisabeth appears on the cover, will be available Tuesday at newsstands for purchase.

Debra Messing's separation anxiety

Debra_messing_11_wenn1336503_cbbDebra Messing‘s six-part mini-series The Starter Wife was a labor of love that challenged her in more ways than one. The project found Debra and her son Roman, 3, in Australia for four months and away from her husband, Daniel Zelman, for the first time in all of the 17 years that they have been together. She tells The View on Thursday that being a temporary single parent and apart from her husband for so long was the "hardest thing I’ve ever had to do."

You know, essentially be a single mom for four months in a foreign country, working all the time. Your first priority is your child. He was on the set with me every single day. We saw kangaroos together and wombats.

Since Roman is her top priority, Debra doesn’t have enough hours in the day to get prim and proper like her Starter Wife alter ego Molly Kagan.

I’ve got a toddler. I don’t have the time to go running around.

Emerson Tenney's paparazzi reversal

74089138_cbb_2

Never having hired a nanny and constantly going oncamping trips in their "olive green, Scooby Doo" V.W. bus,Teri Hatcher has made no secret of her daughter Emerson Rose, 9 1/2, being her toppriority in life. However, life in Hollywood is a bit different.

While on The View on Friday, the 42-year-old actress discussed the relentlesspaparazzi and how she and Emerson turned the cameras on them. As aguest editor for the UK Glamour, she gave Emerson a camera to shoot thepaparazzi for one piece.

I did not expect how empowering it was for her, like not in anasty way. It’s just like we pull up at an ATM machine or something andthey all surround us in cars and started shooting us and I hand her thecamera she just starts walking towards the cars and started shootingthem. Since this article came out, they have really laid off and Idunno if it’s because of that or I’m just suddenly not hot anymore, butwhat was important about it was it was really empowering to her.

Because she is raising a daughter, Teri says she’s doing herbest to protect Emerson from succumbing to image issues and not to feedher "burnt toast," her metaphor for women settling for second best in life and the title of her 2006 memoir, Burnt Toast: AndOther Philosophies of Life ($18).

I think you have to teach your child their self-worth through how you behave with yourself.

Marcia Cross, Jenny McCarthy, and Rosie O'Donnell on c-sections and witnessing birth

Imh452_cbbThe View co-host Rosie O’Donnell, guest host Jenny McCarthy, and guest Marcia Cross discussed their experiences with c-sections this morning on the show. Marcia said,

And whoever said that was easy?! I did not enjoy that, not for one minute…I heard Savannah come out cause I knew she was coming out first and Iwas waiting and waiting for Eden. But I didn’t realize they got themout so fast that they were both out. I was thinking something is wrongand she was already out.

Jenny agreed, saying, ‘It’s horrible, it’s horrible — it’s hard when they have you strapped down ’cause you’re like, ‘I just want to hold my baby!” Rosie shared, ‘[My wife] Kelli had one too [with their daughter Vivi] and she was in bed for a long time afterwards.’ Joy lightened the mood, saying, ‘But the babies probably look beautiful, because they don’t have to go through that tunnel — they don’t get mushed — their head squashed. They just come out — ‘Hi, I’m gorgeous!”

Rosie said, ‘I always thought, if you don’t believe in God, watch a baby get born — and it will change your perspective. It was really the most amazing thing I’ve ever witnessed in my life.’ Jenny agreed, saying, ‘Your heart — you feel it explode.’

About her twin daughters Eden and Savannah, Marcia said,

I’m so deliriously happy, I just can’t even breathe. They’re fraternal and they’re already so different, they’re just completely different beings. They’re on the same schedule right from the beginning – every three hours. They’re still in that narcissistic phase – ‘No, I’m the only baby. No, I’m the only baby.’

She shared the story again about how the girls’ got their names, and mentioned, ‘I don’t think Tom was crazy about Eden, but he went with it.’

Marcia also mentioned that she’s a fan of The View - she tapes it and watches it while she pumps her milk!

What was your c-section experience? Do you agree with Rosie and Jenny’s views on witnessing birth?

Elisabeth Hasselbeck's lunches with Grace and playdates with Rosie

ElisabethThe View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck did a Q&A in the latest issue of People and talked about her daughter Grace Elisabeth, how many kids she wants to have and why she’s jealous of her husband, New York Giants quarterback Tim Hasselbeck.

Grace will turn 2 on April 6, which is her dad’s as well, posing a slight problem for Elisabeth.

She shares a with Tim, which is bad. I keep forgetting him. I’m blinded by her ice-cream cake and can’t see through to the presents I want to get him!

She says Tim is a great dad and the two often fight over who gets to hold Grace, who does have a favorite.

She totally prefers him, which is annoying sometimes when I’m having a bad day. The other night she wanted only him to read her a story. She essentially kicked me out of the room. I was like, ‘No! I birthed you!’ But I wouldn’t trade it for the world. They’re totally in love.

The couple want to have more children – Elisabeth says, "If I could have five kids right now, I’d love that!" – and hope to get pregnant in the next year. But first, the former Survivor contestant must prep her body for pregnancy.

I just need to get to a place where my body is ready to have another child. I think I’m the only TV person who’s trying to put on 10 lbs.! I tend to train really hard. That lifestyle, combined with my celiac disease (an immune-system reaction to gluten), sometimes makes for an environment that’s not the best for holding a child.

As for those rumors that she and Rosie O’Donnell are enemies, Elisabeth say there’s no truth to that and the two, plus their families, are close.

I’ve been to Rosie’s house. We went swimming with the kids (Rose has four children with partner Kelli Carpenter, sons Parker Jaren, 11 and Blake Christopher, 7, and daughters Chelsea Belle, 9, and Vivienne Rose, 4). We hang out. It’s a nice friendship, and it’s one that no one would have expected – even us.

Elisabeth hopes they both return next season because of that and because "it’s a mom’s job."

I can go home after the show, be a mom, clean the closet…Some days I can be home for lunch with Grace. She spits out her grilled cheese and we talk about our day.
