Mia Hamm's "relatively easy pregnancy"

Mia Hamm is expecting twins next month with her husband, L.A. Dodgers first baseman Nomar Garciaparra, and says it has been a trouble-free pregnancy for the soccer icon so far.

It’s been, knock on wood, a relatively easy pregnancy. We’re excited. We have no idea what we’re in for.

The 35-year-old won’t reveal the gender of their twins, which run in both of their families, but she already knows what she won’t name them.

It won’t be Mia or Nomar [spelled] backward or forward, that’s for sure.

Nomar is named after his father Ramon, who created the moniker by spelling his name backwards.

Mia was recently elected into the National Soccer Hall of Fame – in her first year of eligibility with the highest voting percentage ever at 97.2 percent on 137 out of 141 ballots – and plans on bringing her newborns to the New York induction ceremony in August.

It’ll be tough to leave them for four days. I have high expectations of my children, but self-sufficiency at four months probably isn’t one of them.

Julie Foudy, Mia’s former teammate and fellow inductee who welcomed her own daughter, Isabel, on Jan. 1, is looking forward to Mia tackling motherhood.

I just told her it’s the greatest thing to happen in your life. I told her, ‘I can’t wait to see you breast-feeding double-fisted.’ It’s challenging enough with one.

Mia and Nomar have been married for three years. These will be their first children.
