Emerson Tenney's paparazzi reversal

74089138_cbb_2

Never having hired a nanny and constantly going oncamping trips in their "olive green, Scooby Doo" V.W. bus,Teri Hatcher has made no secret of her daughter Emerson Rose, 9 1/2, being her toppriority in life. However, life in Hollywood is a bit different.

While on The View on Friday, the 42-year-old actress discussed the relentlesspaparazzi and how she and Emerson turned the cameras on them. As aguest editor for the UK Glamour, she gave Emerson a camera to shoot thepaparazzi for one piece.

I did not expect how empowering it was for her, like not in anasty way. It’s just like we pull up at an ATM machine or something andthey all surround us in cars and started shooting us and I hand her thecamera she just starts walking towards the cars and started shootingthem. Since this article came out, they have really laid off and Idunno if it’s because of that or I’m just suddenly not hot anymore, butwhat was important about it was it was really empowering to her.

Because she is raising a daughter, Teri says she’s doing herbest to protect Emerson from succumbing to image issues and not to feedher "burnt toast," her metaphor for women settling for second best in life and the title of her 2006 memoir, Burnt Toast: AndOther Philosophies of Life ($18).

I think you have to teach your child their self-worth through how you behave with yourself.

Marcia Cross out for "me" time

Just Jared has new photos of actress Marcia Cross out in Santa Monica on Sunday. It looks as if the  Desperate Housewives star decided to take some "me" time, catching up with her friends for some gal-bonding mani-pedis and coffee. After having her fun, Marcia ran some family errands, picking up groceries and flowers at Whole Foods Market.

Marcia and her stockbroker hubby, Tom Mahoney, have been busy with their 6-week-old baby girls, fraternal twins Eden and Savannah.

Did you take some "me" time shortly after giving birth? How important was it for you or your significant other to have some time out of the house after having children?

UPDATE: Heroes' Greg Grunberg's charitable cause for his son

People_pg2Update: Greg has also created a Heroes Artwork Auction, where people canbid on autographed collector’s edition artwork from the show. Moreinformation can be found here. Eric R. Hargis, president and CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation, says of the auction,

We are thankful that Greg Grunberg, inspired by his own real-lifehero, his son Jake, who has epilepsy, has joined with us to increaseawareness of epilepsy. With the help of Greg, those like him, andpartners like NBC, we can end the stigma associated with epilepsy inthis generation.

Meanwhile, the First National Walk for Epilepsy, chaired by Greg yesterday, was declared a success with a 5,000-plus person turnout and raised more than one million dollars.

CBB reader Tracy also directs us to Greg’s charity, the Pediatric Epilepsy Project at UCLA, and the celebrity-made cards available for purchase that will benefit the cause.

Originally posted Friday, March 30: HeroesGreg Grunberg is chairing the National Walk for Epilepsy tomorrow for the Epilepsy Foundation, an organization that is close to his heart. Greg’s oldest son, Jake, 11, suffers from the condition, and the actor has always had an active role in raising awareness and funds for the disease. More information about the National Walk for Epilepsy and Greg’s role can be found here. He tells TV Guide of how his gig came about,

I’ve got my own charity in L.A. called Pediatric Epilepsy Project, and the Epilepsy Foundation has a magazine and they did a story on me and Jake, and out of that, I said, ‘Look, anything you have on a national level, I’d love to do.’ It’s really to get the word out to end the stigma that’s attached to epilepsy. There’s just a stigma and it’s understandable — seizures are a scary thing. My wife [Elizabeth] and I deal with it every day, and obviously it’s scarier for Jake than anyone else.

Greg says Jake is doing well and hasn’t let epilepsy hinder any extracurricular activities.

It’s week-to-week. He has all kinds of seizures, but if you met him, you’d never know he has epilepsy. He’s almost a black belt in tae kwon do, he’s an all-star baseball player, and he’s great at school. He just has these setbacks — these earthquakes — and he has them every day. But he doesn’t let that define him or stop him from doing anything.

Still, the star admits it’s difficult for the family, which also includes sons Sam, 7, and Ben, 3, at times, but they continue to remain positive.

Trust me, we break down, we scream, we yell, we cry, and that’s part of dealing with it, too, but at the same time, we’ve got three kids, and his brothers are a great support system for him. We all try to be as optimistic as possible.

Another avenue for Greg to raise money for his charity is through Band from TV, his rock star group – literally. The band is a charitable group that donates the money it makes to various organizations and is made up of current and past television stars, including Desperate HousewivesJames Denton and House‘s Hugh Laurie, inspiring Sam to come up with a new name.

Sam, our 7-year-old, came up with a really good name for the band. He’s like, ‘You should call yourselves the Desperate House of Heroes.’

Celebrity Twins for 2007

As if 2006 hasn’t already been the year of the Gemini, producing so many twin births that we can’t even keep up, it seems the trend will continue into the new year. Here’s a look at just some of the celebrities expecting twins in 2007:

Marcia Cross & Tom Mahoney, expecting fraternal twins
Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross has had a whirlwind year and the fun is only going to continue for this primetime actress. 44-year-old Marcia married her beau, stockbroker Tom Mahoney, after many years of wondering if she would ever get her fairytale of having her very own family. As if marrying the man she loved wasn’t enough, shortly after the couple’s June nuptials, Marcia found out that she was expecting and not just one baby, but fraternal twins. Marcia and Tom have recently admitted that theyknow the sex or sexes of their babies, who are due in April, but will keep that secret for now.

Patrick Dempsey & Jillian Fink, expecting twin boys
Shortly after sharing his desire for a sibling for his 4-year-old daughter Tallulah, Patrick Dempsey aka Dr. McDreamy, announced that his wife Jillian was in fact pregnant with their second child. However, the joke was on him, when the couple found out that they were expecting babies two… and three. The family are awaiting two baby boys (presumably fraternal twins) due in late January.

Mia Hamm & Normar Garciaparra, expecting twins
U.S. soccer star Mia Hamm and her hubby, baseball player Nomar Garciaparra, are expecting their first children together… twins. There hasn’t been much information released about this pregnancy, but we can only guess that one if not both of these babies are going to have some athletic ability.

Nicky Byrne & Georgina Byrne, expecting twins
Westlife’s Nicky Byrne and his wife Georgina, who herself is the daughter of the Irish Prime Minister, are expecting their own twins, the first children for both, next summer. Nicky says the couple don’t know the sex of their twins.

Norah O’Donnell & Geoff Tracey, expecting twins
MSNBC Chief Washington correspondent Norah O’Donnell, 32, and her husband, chef Geoff Tracey are expecting their first children late this spring, the couple has confirmed. Norah says, "Geoff and I are so thrilled."

Rumor: Marcia Cross has placenta previa?

Cross2Update: A source tells us, "As someone who knows and works with Marcia Cross, I assure you that ridiculous National Enquirer story is complete b.s.!!! She and her babies are completely fine."

Originally posted 3:45 pm: The National Enquirer is reporting that Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross is suffering from placenta previa, a condition where the  implantation of the placenta at least partially covering the cervix.  It was discovered during a recent ultrasound after Marcia had been experiencing cramps and bleeding.

According to the Enquirer’s source, "Marcia’s doctor checked the fetuses’ heartbeats, and found them to be perfectly healthy.  Marcia was relieved, but her doctor warned her that she had better slow down and take things easy.  The problem might resolve itself as the fetuses grow and pull the placenta away from the danger area — but if it doesn’t work itself out, it could endanger both her and the twins."

About.com’s Pregnancy Guide Robin Elise Weiss tells us, "Placenta previa is where the placenta can lay completely or partially over the cervix. This can cause some episodes of bleeding.  Many times placenta previa discovered prior to 20 weeks will go away on it’s own as the body of the uterus continues to grow.  If it is still present at the end of pregnancy a cesarean birth will prevent risk to the mother and baby or babies in the case of Marcia Cross.  Since she is pregnant with twins, she is at a greater risk of preterm labor, meaning her cervix may begin to open earlier, which would pose a risk of bleeding for her.  Many physicians would prescribe bedrest in this case."  For more on placenta previa, visit About.com.

Marcia’s fraternal twins are due in April.
