Michael Douglas admits to having put career ahead of family

Douglas_7_cbb_3_2In his new film King of California, Michael Douglas plays a neglectful, not to mention mentally unstable, father, and the actor admits the former label rang true for him a little bit in regards to his oldest son Cameron, now 28, with ex-wife Diandra.
I certainly connected with the idea that your career can become all-important. I was aggressively pursing my career and that was my first priority, and I think my older son, Cameron, who’s 28 now, probably didn’t get the benefit of having me around that my two younger kids have. Now, I’ve sort of changed my priorities.
Claiming to have "settled down," the 62-year-old says family is definitely his main concern now and he has no problem staying at home with Dylan, 7, and Carys, 4, while Catherine Zeta-Jones continues to act.

I also don’t mind being Mr. Mom. My wife is 25 years younger, and in the prime of her career, and I’m happy to give her as much space and time as she needs, especially as talented as she is.

Catherine Zeta-Jones' recipe for post-baby body

Douglas_family Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, 37, admits that she enjoyed eating for two while pregnant with each of her children. In fact she has said that she "ate for Wales" and savored her favorite food items during pregnancy. Her children, with husband Michael Douglas, 62, are Dylan, 7, and Carys, 4.

Catherine shows off her fit post-baby body in the July 2007 issue of InStyle magazine. Catherine explains that she chose to lose weight the old fashioned way – through healthy eating and exercise.

I have to drag myself to the gym like everyone else. But I do eat sensibly and have lots of chicken. Although if I could eat only three foods for the rest of my life, it would also be smoked salmon sandwiches with potato chips crunched inside and fish and chips if I did not put on weight.

Catherine also exercised regularly using a exercise regime she used for her role in the musical Chicago in order to drop extra baby weight.

Catherine and her family live predominately in Bermuda.

Michael Douglas: Actor, pancake chef

Douglas_7_cbb_3Maybe Michael Douglas‘ next gig should be at IHOP. In recent years, theactor has spent more time in the kitchen than in front of the camera -at least in his nearly 7-year-old son Dylan‘s eyes, CatherineZeta-Jones says.

Dylan was doing Occupations Day at school. When he got home, he askedMichael and me about our careers,so we said, ‘Mommy and daddy make movies.’ But, this was the time whenI went back to work and Michael took time off to be a stay-at-home dad.Dylan said, ‘Wait a minute: Mama makes movies. Daddy, you just makepancakes!’ Michael was like, ‘After 40 years in the business and twoOscars, it comes down to my son thinking that all I do is makepancakes!’

Dylan and his sister Carys, 4, give their dad a hand sometimes.

Michael makes breakfast every Sunday — that’s his thing. To help him,Dylan and Carys break the eggs and beat them, while mama sits down andwatches it all happen — with my cup of tea.

Catherine Zeta-Jones was "sensible" with weight loss

Douglas_7_cbb_3Catherine Zeta-Jones has always been known for her curvaceous figure, which she has maintained after having two kids with Michael Douglas, son Dylan, 6, and daughter Carys, 4. The No Reservations star tellsPeople the secret is to be sensible.

It takes a lot of time. These days it’s like a race to thefinish line: Who can look back in shape the quickest after having kids.I was really quite sensible with it. I do a lot of swimming and I thinkI’m going to start up with tap dancing lessons when the kids go back toschool. And I eat sensibly.

One thing she doesn’t eat is peanut butter, which is one of her kids’ favorite foods.

Inever had it growing up, and I don’t like the consistency. I’ve triedchunky and smooth. My husband and kids love it and I’m, like, about tolose it or throw up. On the other side of the Atlantic we have Marmite.I love it.

Dylan and Carys Douglas are spoiled – by their grandparents

Douglas_7_cbb_3 Catherine Zeta-Jones may not want to spoil her kids, but that won’t stop her parents from doing so. The No Reservations star tells David Letterman on The Late Show that when it comes to grandma and grandpa, Dylan, 6, and Carys, 4, can get whatever they want.

My kids have been with my parents in Wales [this summer], getting spoiled. They love it. Me and Michael [Douglas] are not allowed to go there because they get spoiled rotten and it takes me three weeks to try to get them back to normal.

Besides multiple visits to Wales, Catherine, 37, makes sure her kids know about their mom’s heritage by teaching them Welsh.

I try to instill the Welsh in the kids. They don’t speak fluent Welsh, but they know ‘Jingle Bells’ in Welsh. And they know their bellybutton is called a ‘boogal.’

However, not everyone knows that.

If I’m late coming home from work, I call them and say, ‘When you’re asleep, mama is going to come in and kiss your boogal.’ They say, ‘Oh no, mama, not the boogal! Not the boogal!’ Sometimes I speak it on the phone in front of people and I think I’m gonna be arrested – kissing their boogals while they’re sleeping.

Motherhood "natural" for Catherine Zeta-Jones

Douglas_7_cbb_3She’s played an array of characters over her career, but none haschallenged Catherine Zeta-Jones the way No Reservations‘ Kate has. As aworkaholic chef, Catherine’s alter ego has no time for kids and zeromaternal instincts, which couldn’t be more different from the actressherself.

That was one of the things that I really had to keep in the back of mymind, because I’m a parent, too. My maternal instincts were hard tocontain. This woman has never been around children, doesn’t know what to dowith children. It’s just so alien to her. To me, it’s natural.

Catherine spends most of the year in Bermuda with Michael Douglas andtheir kids Dylan, 6, and Carys, 4. She says she loves the localebecause work permits are required for paparazzi to descend on theisland, which explains the dearth of photos of her family.

If you arrive with a whole bunch of cameras, they just put you back on theplane. I’m happy to report that my life in Bermuda, no paparazzi. You don’t see me going shopping, don’t see me picking my kids up from school, don’t see me coming from yoga.

Douglas_7_cbb_3When asked how she balances work and being mom to Dylan, 6, and Carys, 4, Catherine Zeta-Jonessays she doesn’t. That’s because one will always trump the other inimportance.

I hate to say the word ‘balance’ when it comes to myfamily and children because at the end of the day, that is my life andeverything else is a bonus.
