My wife turned our oldest son Talon’s room into a jungle – andit’s every boy’s dream. Cathy found what was really important to eachchild and focused on that when decorating their bedrooms.

At one point, theinterviewer recalls a "great lesson" Michelle taught her years ago whenthe actress corrected her for calling Claudia her "adopted daughter"when she is just her daughter. Michelle acknowledges that she never didit again and applauds her for that.

Here are the highlights:

On raising teens: I know, can you believe it? To tell you the truth, I feel likeit’s more difficult to be working now that they’re older, even though Ihad actually thought it would be the other way around. When they’re babies, you just sort of throwthem in the car seat and they go where you go. I mean, I literally usedto bring Claudia everywhere. In restaurants, I used to just plop herdown on the table in her car seat — she was like a centerpiece! But nowthat they’re older, they have their routines and their schedules, andtheir interests and their friends. And I don’t really want to disruptthat, because I want them to have a sense of continuity and normalcy.

How they feel about her returning to work: They’re very encouraging, because they know it makes mehappy. And also, since I haven’t been working so much, it’s not as ifthey’ve spent the past years saying to me, ‘You’re always gone.’ Andnow that they really understand more about what I do, I think they’remore curious than ever. Because frankly, in the past, they could nothave been less interested. Most people in the world have seen more ofme on-screen than my kids have.

On Claudia: Boy, there’s nothing typical about my girl. She’s a force to bereckoned with, and an amazing human being. I wanted her to be a reallyindependent, outspoken young woman, and I sure got that! She’s alsovery creative and inquisitive. And what’s exciting about this age isthat she’s really coming into her own. She’s everything I’d hoped shewould be.

On becoming a mom: Well, one thing that’s great about having kids, especially given mycareer, is that it forces you out of your narcissism. I mean, I’m in acareer where my product is me. So it was nice to have something,someone, come along and take the focus off me. I really needed to givemyself some distractions from myself.

On meeting David as she was adopting Claudia: The adoption process was already in motion when he and I met. So whenshe came, he and I had only been together for about two months. So wehad this child with us right away, and most people don’t have that. ButI really got to see him in a situation that certainly would separatethe boys from the men. Obviously, he really rose to the occasion. And,you know, we were both adults. It’s not like we were kids anymore, andwe were both at the age where we were ready to start a family. So weboth got to see each other as parents before we progressed in ourrelationship together, and in a strange way, it took the pressure offus, as a couple. We had something else to focus on. It was sort ofperfectly timed. I mean, it’s a real testament to the kind of person heis, but also to the fact that sometimes the traditional way of doingthings isn’t always the best way.

On Claudia and John’s relationship: Yes, they do [get along]. They’ve been close their whole lives, and they’re closein age. But don’t get me wrong: They have their moments of siblingconflict.

On gender differences: I remember, before I had them, I didn’t really believe muchin gender differences, or that little boys were inherently all thatdifferent from little girls. But I certainly believe it now, becausewhen they were little, they couldn’t have been more different — John wasinto trucks and Claudia was into kitty cats, and he was eating bugs andshe wasn’t. But I just feel like I’ve been so blessed to have these twochildren.

On discipline: I’m probably the bad cop in the house, yeah. Because Dad is theone to say, ‘Oh, OK.’ I don’t want to be the bad guy, but I amdefinitely more of the disciplinarian, the strict one, by default.

On taking after her parents: It’s funny, because the older my kids get, the more I refer back towhat my parents did. I started out thinking, ‘Oh, I’m not going to do itthe way my parents did,’ and then as I got into parenting, Irealized — Hey, maybe they did know a little something.

On her hopes for her kids: I want them to be fighters; I want them to be survivors; I wantthem to have something they believe in, and to stay true to themselves.My grandmother raised five children during the Depression by herself.At 50, she threw her sewing machine into the back of a pickup truck anddrove from North Dakota to California. She was a real survivor, sothat’s my stock. That’s how I want my kids to be too.

What she’d change about motherhood: Oh, I’d love to get more sleep. After Claudia was born, I thought thatonce she started sleeping through the night I’d be able to catch up,but then John came along. I kept thinking that eventually the day wouldcome when I wouldn’t feel exhausted, but now I’ve come to the sadrealization that it’s not gonna happen.

On relocating the family from L.A. to northern California: Well, I think all of us miss what was familiar about living in L.A.,and, obviously, we miss our friendships. And I have a lot of familythere, so I miss them. So some of the adjustment has been hard. Butoverall, I’m really happy we made the move, and I think that it wasdefinitely the best decision for our family…Probably the biggest difference is that we don’t feel as though we haveto go to this screening or that benefit or whatever. We can spend moretime together as a family because there just aren’t as manydistractions. I really feel a huge release being up here.

On baking with John: Actually, I do bake. In fact, John and I made a cake not too longago — it was a banana cake with butter-cream frosting. It wasdisgustingly delicious. And worth every calorie!

Birth stats: Born Sunday, April 29th. Home with Sheryl Monday, April 30th. Weighed in at 7 lbs, 10 oz, and was 22 inches long.

Name meaning: Wyatt is Sheryl’s father’s middle name, Steven is after her brother and her manager.

Starting the adoption process: I’ve always wantedto adopt. Even if I’d had my own kids, I would have adopted. I love theidea of adopting. I always thought I had an immense amount of love togive. Igot started at the end of my radiation treatment [in Spring 2006]. I knew it would takea long time. They don’t put you at the front of the line just becauseyou’re a rock star.

I went through the proper channels and did it justlike everybody else does it. I went through an agency. I filled out a lot of paperwork. You answer all kinds of questions and they come and visit you.  I did not care [what sex the baby was].I did not care what nationality. I do believe, and it may sound wacky,that souls pick their surroundings. I feel like Wyatt was on his way,one way or the other.

Spilling the beans: MatthewPerry was here a few weeks ago, saw the alphabet and said, ‘What’sgoing on here? That looks like a Ouija board!’ I had to blow my newsand say, ‘Well, the stork may be coming.’

Adoption details and concern that the birth parents will recognize their child: I knew he was coming and Iknew there was an opportunity for the birth mother to change her mind.I flew to where he was, which was in another state, and I took him homea day later. He was 1 day old.

This was a closedadoption, but I have a physical description and the medical history ofthe parents, which is really great because you know what your child isin for regarding medical issues. I have great faith that things will work out the way they’re meant to. I am going to raise him in a healthy environment.

On being honest with Wyatt: He will know he’sadopted. He will know as much as he wants to know about his family. Andif the time comes that he wants to meet his birth family, I will helphim with that. I think it will come about when it comes about. When he’s old enough tounderstand it, we’ll talk about it. By then he’ll already know and loveme as his mom.

On meeting her son: I think I said, ‘Welcome to the world,’ but mostly I just stared at him.

On being an instant mom: My parents were out here whenhe was born. My mom would hand him to me and say, ‘Here’s your mommy.’It was really poignant — and very startling — to hear my mom call meMommy. It took me a while to get used to it.

Maternal instincts: I’ve been around so many kids, I’ve always been extremely at ease in the mothering role.

First week: Iwas so lucky that my mom was here for the first week. I think if Ididn’t have people around me who knew what they were doing, I wouldhave panicked. Babies don’t speak English clearly at this stage! Youhave to figure out if they’re pooping, hungry or sleepy.

On changes: The day he came home, I felt like thewhole house had changed. The house felt fuller. You just feel likenesting and making sure he’s acclimated to the world. It is all sofascinating. You don’t want to miss a thing. I’ve barely left the house. Waking up in the middle of the night and seeing him nextto me andrealizing, ‘Oh, he’s still here! How fantastic! It’s not a dream.

On raising Wyatt: To prevent Wyatt from turning into a spoiled brat, Sheryl wants to spend the majorityof his childhood in Nashville, TN, and plans for him to attendschool there. ‘I believe in saying no. I’mgoing to try and be a really good parent and not his best friend. I’mnot going to raise him and have him go to school here [in L.A.]. I havea farm in Nashville and he’ll grow up down there. I have family thereand also in Missouri just a few hours away.‘

Sheryl also plans to adopt more children, saying, ‘Definitely, a whole troop! Ilove kids. I can definitely see myself adopting more kids. As soon as Ibrought Wyatt home, I told my mom I wanted another. She told me to slowdown and learn what I was doing with Wyatt first.’

Baby care: Sheryl’s parents and a baby nurse are helping her out. She says, ‘I didn’t have any trepidationabout how I’d do as a mom. But there are certain things that you can’tknow with a new baby that you have to learn as you go. Luckily, myparents were here, and I’ve gotten great advice from my mother and Ihave a wonderful baby nurse.’

The baby nurse in question? We hear it’s Marva, who cared for Deacon Phillippe and Coco Arquette in their first months, and stayed with Julia Roberts to help care for Hazel and Finn until they were 2 — you may remember Julia’s on-stage Oscar thank-you to her!

Celeb friends help out: d=”intelliTXT” name=”intelliTxt”>My dear friend Laura Dern has been with me all the way through this experience and had a babyshower for me last week. And Gabby Reece has been with me all the way.These very ‘Earth Mother’ types are really dialed into how to raise ababy organically and holistically.

Dating/Future father?: I’mvery happy where I am and don’t feel any pressure to get married. Wyattis going to be the gatekeeper! There won’t be anybody coming betweenWyatt and Mom. You buy one and get one free. I used to gauge men on howthey were around my dogs. Wyatt now becomes the deciding factor. Thislittle boy is so special. It will be very informative about anyone Imight get involved with. What are they really made of? How much love dothey have?

Being a mom has already inspired her to partake in the World Food Program, which feeds millions of kids worldwide: I don’t think there is any coincidence that I was feeding my babywatching these starving children living in abject poverty. Then theopportunity came up to make a real difference.

In lieu of paying Sheryl for her willingness to share photos of Wyatt, OK! Magazine made a large donation to WFP at Sheryl’s request. Sheryl writes on her website,

Well, as you no doubt have seen, Wyatt and I did our first, and probably only,photoshoot for a magazine. I have always made it a practice to keep myprivate life out of the public light but to be honest, I was beingheavily stalked by photographers who wanted to get the ‘first shot.’And rather than have someone I don’t know sell a shot to a magazine, weaccepted OK magazine’s offer to make a generous donation to an amazingorganization called the World Food Program in Wyatt’s name. So….Wyatt is now a humanitarian!

Madonna is indeed going to Africa to continue her work with the RaisingMalawi organization. She is overseeingthe building of a children’s health care center.

She is absolutely not adopting another baby. I know that has been a rumor ever since she started the adoption process with her son David but it just isn’t true.

Originally posted 8:09 am: Life & Style is reporting that Madonna is planning to adopt again, with husband Guy Ritchie. The celebrity parents who already raise, Lourdes, 9, Rocco, 6 and David, 18 months, are said to be looking at adopting again. Madonna has apparently travelled to Malawai so that David can get to know his father;

She wants David to have a relationship with his biological father.

And this visit isn’t just a vacation, but rather apparently a mission to repair her image before she goes through with the proceedings for another adoption.

She is going under the guise of a vacation, but she’s not on a vacation – she’s on a mission. She intends to adopt another baby soon, but first she wants to repair her image from all the bad press she got over David’s adoption. She plans of having David’s father being part of their extended family. She wants to show that her adoption was an unselfish act of love and not what it was portrayed as in the media.

Madonna’s rep confirmed that she is travelling to Malawai but denied any plans for an adoption.

Angelina and Brad want to make sure Zahara doesn’t feel alienated as the only black face in their family. [Angelina] feels the children need a balance of faces in their life.

It is being reported that Angelina has fallen in love with a one-year-old girl from Oure Cassoni Refugee Camp and asked her lawyers to begin the adoption process.The source close to Angelina told Britain’s News of the World newspaper:

She is hoping to have her daughter home by the summer.

Originally posted 11 am: The adoption drama for Madonna continues. The popstar’s new son’s biological father reportedly wants to know how his son, 1-year-old David, is doing with Madonna and her family.

"I don’t have her phone and mailing addresses. All I want is to find out how my son is but I don’t know how I can do it," Yohane Banda told Malawi’s Daily Times newspaper. "I only talked to her once at the  High Court and I want to talk to her now and find out about my child." 

Madonna’s adoption is not completely official yet. She signed interim adoption papers, allowing David to stay with her for 18 months under the watchful eye of Malawian officials, who will then decide whether he can stay with the Ritchies.

Several not-so-reputable outlets are reporting that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony plan to adopt a Puerto Rican baby. Contactmusic.com cites “sources” which claim that despite great efforts to conceive a child J. Lo and Marc have realized that adoption may be their best shot at parenthood.  The couple, who have been married since 2004, are reportedly seeking a Puerto Rican baby because both of their families hail from the island territory.

Marc has three children from previous relationships.  Daughter Ariana (with ex-girlfriend Debbie Rosado) was born in 1994 and sons Christian and Ryan (with ex-wife Dayanara Torres) were born February 5, 2001 and August 16, 2003, respectively.
