Stacy Keibler Felt like a ‘Warrior’ After Drug-Free Home Birth

07/15/2015 at 11:30 AM ET

Stacy Keibler felt like she went through a war after giving birth to daughter Ava Grace at home last August, sans drugs. But she says it was the best kind of battle — and she’d happily do it all over again.

“I felt like we went to war together. I kept saying, ‘Ava’s a warrior. I’m a warrior.’ It was one of my mantras that I would say. Then when she came out, I feel like we had this bond that we had just fought together,” she tells Ricki Lake in a new video for The Business of Being Born.

Keibler, 35, credits the film with helping her and husband Jared Pobre make decisions about her pregnancy and Ava’s birth.

“Watching The Business of Being Born changed everything for my husband and I,” she says. “We really wanted to research midwives and wanted to learn as much as we could about doing things more naturally.”

Stacy Keibler isn’t about to miss out on one of the most magical times in her life.

Since welcoming daughter Ava Grace in August, the first-time mama and her husband, Jared Pobre, have decided to take on parenting without the help of a full-time nanny.

“Being a mom is the most important job I’ve ever had, but being a full-time mom means more to me than anything in the world right now,” Keibler, 35, told PEOPLE while donating school supplies to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles with the help of Yoobi and Starlight Children’s Foundation on Wednesday.

But juggling between her personal and professional lives — including her charitable work — isn’t always so easy.

“I love being a full-time mom so it is about balancing and being able to come out to help other children that are in need,” she says. “I have a very special place in my heart for doing things like that so it’s easy to leave for two hours.”

It’s been less than four months since Stacy Keibler gave birth to daughter Ava Grace, but she’s already bounced back to her pre-baby body thanks to a healthy diet and a regular workout routine.

“I feel strong, flexible, and very high energy,” Keibler, 35, posted on her website. “In fact, my abs are in better shape now than before I got pregnant!”

The actress and TV host says she was able to drop the pregnancy pounds thanks to staying active and maintaining healthy eating habits.

“What I put into my body was the biggest single thing that helped me get back in shape,” she shares.

Keibler also credits breastfeeding — which she notes burns 300 to 500 calories a day — and exercise to her postpartum weight loss.

A very pregnant Stacy Keibler is ready for mommyhood.

“We’re completely ready to go. We’re just sitting around waiting now,” Keibler told PEOPLE of her nursery at the Baby Jogger Vue Launch held at Bel Bambini on Thursday.

The mom-to-be — who is expecting a daughter in August — adds that the finished nursery is chic and filled with sentiments.

“Actually, at my baby shower I asked everybody to bring their favorite children’s book,” Keibler, 34, says. “It’s great because the nursery is filled with all of my friends and family’s favorite children’s books. So she’s covered.”

And although Keibler and her husband, tech entrepreneur Jared Pobre, are keeping the name of their daughter private — even from friends and family — she admits the name-picking process was simple for the couple.

At a time when most women are overcome with exhaustion, Stacy Keibler is feeling better than ever in her third trimester.

And the mom-to-be — who is expecting a daughter in August — credits it all to one thing: a healthy lifestyle.

“I haven’t had one day where I’ve been sick or tired,” Keibler told PEOPLE at the Popchips 4th of July BBQ Happy Hour event on Tuesday in West Hollywood.

“I’ve had so much energy, but I’m very conscious of making sure I work out every day and eating healthy, so I really, truly believe that’s a big part of it.”

To keep in check with only choosing the best for her body, Keibler, 34, reads over all ingredient labels — if she can’t pronounce them, she passes on the product.

“I try to be as organic as possible, especially with food. I not only try to eat organic, but no preservatives, nothing artificial,” she explains.
