Keri Russell on Keeping Nostalgia in Check

Ramey

During her pregnancy with son River Russell, 17 ½-months, Keri Russell often sang the praises of being married to a master craftsman, for her husband Shane Deary was at the time renovating the couple’s brownstone in Brooklyn. Now that the job is complete, however, the 32-year-old actress is beginning to see that the home will forever be a bit of a work in progress for Shane. She tells Details magazine,

"When Shane was growing up, he lived in this A-frame house with a rope swing hanging from a rafter. The other day he said, ‘I really want a rope swing for River. Let’s put it right here!’ And I said, ‘Buuut the staircase is right here. He would fall down three flights of stairs."

Her newest movie Bedtime Stories, distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, represents somewhat of a departure from the indie roles she’s chosen in recent years, and it sounds as though it was a welcome change. "It’s funny and it’s a movie that kids can see," she notes. Keri’s co-star Adam Sandler — himself dad to Sadie Madison, 2 ½, and new baby Sunny Madeline, 3 weeks — reveals that the set was family-friendly, as well. "[Keri] would bring her son to the set to play with my daughter," he explains. "She also taught me all the dances from her days as a Mouseketeer."

Bedtime Stories opens Dec. 25.

Timothy Hutton on the 'Push and Pull' of Working Fatherhood

Jason Gemnich/WireImage

Oscar winner Timothy Hutton recently made the switch to the small screen, when he signed on to star in the TNT series Leverage. It didn’t come without a price, however, for Timothy had to leave his 7-year-old son Milo and wife Aurore Giscard d’Estaing behind in Paris in order to film the show. "That was certainly a push-pull for me," Timothy, 48, tells Parade – but not entirely unprecedented.

Noah, Timothy’s 21-year-old son with ex-wife Debra Winger, learned to deal with dad’s sporadic absences as well, and sometimes during "monumental events" in his young life. His elder son was the captain of the varsity basketball team and Timothy admits that he missed several championship games because his job as an actor. While he couldn’t be present, he was at the very least listening in! Says Timothy,

"I would have my friend go and hold up a cell phone and do a play-by-play. It was kind of heartbreaking being represented by a cell phone, but fortunately for me it didn’t happen often."

Leverage premieres December 7 at 10 p.m. on TNT.

Geri Halliwell: Bluebell is Definitely a 'Fertility Doll'

Kevin Perkins/Pedro Andrade/Pacific Coast News

After several public romances that have ended in break-ups, Geri Halliwell is still enchanted by the dream of a "long relationship," as she finds the "idea of the swan that mates for life" to be quite comforting. However, for the former Spice Girls singer, her journey to find a life-long partner is one that has been made much easier after Geri welcomed her first child, daughter Bluebell Madonna in 2006 — a responsibility that has allowed Geri to evolve from a "very fearful girl who was always expecting to be found out" into a happier and more confident woman. "People have seen me as this ballsy Spice Girl…this LA super-thin yoga freak…and now a mum," says Geri who goes on to admit she has "changed throughout those years."

Crediting herself with being "much more balanced" as a mum, the 36-year-old has found herself to be inspired by 2 ½-year-old Bluebell as Geri has discovered a new sense of comfort in her own skin. After recently wearing a bikini during a photo shoot — a moment that Geri recalls as "terrifying" — the singer came to a realization that, despite her frequent checks in the mirror to reveal her "big apple cheeks," the fantasy of "chasing after perfection is mad. You have to let go and accept that you may not be perfect, but you’re good enough." After a battle with eating disorders, Geri — who forgoes working out to spend time with Bluebell — is instead concentrated on "being an example" to her daughter.

"Motherhood has changed me. In the past, I always had my hang-ups, believing I wasn’t pretty enough, or a good enough singer, or thin enough. But now I’m much more accepting of myself. A lot of my body issues have naturally settled down. I eat healthily, drink lots of water, and try to get lots of sleep."

Finding such happiness as a mother, Geri looks forward to making Bluebell a big sister, as she shares that the possibility of adoption has always been on her mind as "something I want to give a lot more serious thought to." However, in the mean time, the proud mama jokes she can count on her daughter for help when she is finally ready to have a second child! "I do always say Bluebell is like some sort of fertility doll. Five friends got pregnant after playing with her and then Melanie [Chisholm] gets pregnant after the tour," laughs Geri.

Bluebell is Geri’s daughter with scriptwriter Sacha Gervasi.

Clint Eastwood: I'm An Older, But Better Father

Jason Merritt/FilmMagic

For 78-year-old Clint Eastwood, his mature year reflect the countless films he has starred in, produced, and directed, but when it comes to parenting his seven children — including his 11-year-old daughter Morgan — the California native believes that his age is just a number. While Clint is the first to admit his busy schedule over the last year may give the impression that he has little time for his youngest, the opposite is true, as Clint’s "daughter takes precedence over everything." Although his determination to be an involved father may be evident in his parenting skills, that focus has not always been the case, according to Clint. Spending his younger years "working all around the world" on a "desperate" mission to "find the brass ring," Clint believes he is a "much better father now" who — despite the odd looks — can always be found supporting Morgan on the ball field.

"I go to all the softball games and look ridiculous out there because almost everybody’s got a much younger father than me. But it’s fun. I think you appreciate a lot more when you get to my age."

In addition to daughter Morgan with his wife Dina Ruiz, Clint also has daughters Kimber, 44, Alison, 36, Kathryn, 20, and Francesca, 15, and sons Kyle, 40, and Scott, 22, from previous relationships.

Christina Aguilera Finds Friendship With Fellow Mom Nicole Richie

Arnaldo Magnani/Getty

With their 10 ½-month-old babies born a day apart, it is only fitting that songstress Christina Aguilera would befriend Nicole Richie to not only share their first-time experiences as new mothers, but to seek advice — one celebrity mom to another! The opportunity to meet each other presented itself after mutual friends introduced the pair and although Christina — mom to son Max Liron –  admits that she "didn’t know much about Nicole" prior to the meeting, she was instantly "blown away with how great of a mom she is" to her daughter Harlow Winter Kate. Inspired by Nicole’s parenting skills, the 27-year-old singer shares she often looks to her new friend for tips!

"I actually ask her for advice because she has a lot of great things that she does for her little one. She’s even a little more stricter with battery operated toys and what not, she’s a great woman."

Max is Christina’s son with her husband Jordan Bratman while Harlow is Nicole’s daughter with rocker Joel Madden.

Tim McGraw Says Kids Reconnect at Thanksgiving

Jim Spellman/WireImage

As it is for so many, the holidays are a time for family for country singers Tim McGraw and his wife Faith Hill. The couple — married since 1996 and parents to Gracie Katherine, 11, Maggie Elizabeth, 10, and Audrey Caroline, turning 7 next month — will be on the road this Thanksgiving but usually spend the day with their loved ones "just like everybody else," Tim says. He adds,

"It’s about family and either going to family’s house or having family over at our place. The kids getting to reconnect with aunts and uncles and cousins and friends that sometimes you don’t get to connect with unless it’s that time of the year.

The true meaning of the holiday isn’t lost on Tim, 41, either; "And certainly what it means is giving thanks," he says.

Brandy 'So Glad' To Be a Mom

Fame

When she embarked on motherhood at the age of 23, songstress Brandy welcomed more than just a daughter. In a new interview with Vibe.com, she says of 6-year-old Sy’rai Iman Smith, "we’re like best friends."

"I like her as a person. She makes me laugh. So much insight comes from her. She’s six going on 18. We sing together.  We crack jokes…I’m just so glad that she’s mine."

That her relationship with Sy’rai’s father, producer Robert Smith, did not survive is unfortunate — but not an open wound for either party. Robert, who has since gotten married and has three other daughters, tells Vibe.com that while "the relationship didn’t work out" the "bottom line is the friendship." For the committed co-parents "the common denominator" remains Sy’rai. Adds Robert,

"You can’t be so mad at somebody who gave you that kind of a gift…At the end of the day, we have a beautiful child, and I’m the happiest man on Earth. That’s really the logistics of it. No drama."

It’s a sentiment echoed by Brandy herself, who has been single for three years. She admits that she has moments of wondering "What’s going on?" and "Oh my God, am I old?" but says she’s happy for now to channel all her energy into Sy’rai. "I think that’s why I’m so close to my daughter — because I don’t have a relationship to balance it out," she explains. "I’m so clingy with her, she’s like, ‘Mom, let me breathe.’"
