Melody’s First Easter
I cannot believe Melody is already five months! Holy moly, everyone says time starts to really fly when you have children but I never imagined like this.
It’s really important to me that I document Melody’s every step as much as I can, so when she is older she can look back on all her adventures and know how much her mommy and daddy loved her from the start.
I love taking pictures of Melody, especially her “firsts”. This Easter was Melody’s first and even though she is too young to paint Easter eggs and go on hunts, I still wanted to make it a memorable one for her, for pictures’ sake.

Melody’s First Valentine’s Day
I’ve never been a big Valentine’s Day person. Not because I don’t believe in love or because I’m a scrooge, in fact quite the opposite — I’m a hopeless romantic.
However, I’d much rather be surprised with flowers or chocolate on a random day, rather than on a day when so many men (and women) feel pressure to do something extravagant and thoughtful for their significant others.
Although I’m not complaining that Steven woke me up to breakfast in bed! That’s the first time I’ve had breakfast since giving birth! (Thanks babe.) 
Having said that, these holidays small or large have become more special to me, and my attitude has completely changed since having Melody.
Whether it’s Christmas, Easter or even an invented holiday such as Valentine’s Day they mean so much more to me now than they ever did. It’s amazing how children make you see everything for the first time again.

Pretty in Pink
Growing up I was a tomboy — not by choice. My mom would shave my head (she said it would make my hair thicker), put me in overalls and would tell me that big strong girls didn’t wear frills, pink bows and things of that nature.
I didn’t turn out so bad I guess, although I think I love to play dress up myself now for all the years I spent being mistaken as a boy!
When I had Melody, I made a promise to myself that as she gets old enough to understand, I will let her form her own identity. I’ll just be there to encourage and support her without exerting my opinion on her one way or the other.
Whether she wants to dress as a cowboy or a ballerina! Or if she chooses to take dance classes or to play baseball, I’ll be there cheering her on no matter what.
I feel it’s important for children to be themselves, to find their own likes and dislikes without being pushed into anything. But what do I know? I’ve only been a mom for a couple of months! Maybe down the road my feelings will change and I’ll turn into a dictator of a mother! (Let’s hope not.)
