Justin Tuck Chats About His Children’s Book and Giving Back

New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck has found a new talent: Author!

“Reading is very important to any success,” Tuck, 29, told PEOPLE during a Family Storyteller event at N.Y.C.’s Housing Works Bookstore Café on May 5.

The Super Bowl champ and dad read from his children’s book, Home-Field Advantage, which is inspired by Tuck’s own childhood adventures (including being pushed around by his five older sisters), to show that toughness comes in all forms.

Even the cover image was based on snapshots of Tuck running through the yard as a kid. The young boy also bears a resemblance to Tuck’s 2-year-old son, Jayce, whom the NFL star describes as “the most fearless little kid I’ve ever been around.”

Nancy Tillman: All Children Have a ‘Crown on Their Head’

Courtesy Feiwel & Friends

Though her two children are now adults, for author Nancy Tillman, they remain her continued source of inspiration.

“There were some bullying episodes at my daughter’s school when she was very young. I remember telling her and all of her girlfriends that they were born with a crown on their head and no one had the right to take it off and no one ever could. It really started from that,” she tells PEOPLE of her latest book, The Crown on Your Head.

TOMS Celebrates One Day Without Shoes for Charity

Courtesy TOMS

Already well known for their charitable business plan (for every shoe purchased, a pair of shoes is donated to a needy child), TOMS is taking it one step further with their 5th annual One Day Without Shoes campaign today.

The company is encouraging everyone to lose their footwear for an hour or the whole day as a reminder of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a kid’s life.

And they’re not alone. Celeb parents including Charlize Theron, Busy Philipps and more have also joined in to promote the cause.

TOMS is also encouraging you to share photos of your bare feet on their Photowall, sponsored by flickr.

And while you’re letting your toes breath, take time to check out the company’s new spring collection. These mini dotted Botas ($36) are beyond adorable!

Well, all that’s about to change with Hatch, a finely-edited collection of 14 key maternity designs that work during and after pregnancy.

Created in 2011, the line was conceived by twobirds designer Ariane Goldman to give style savvy moms-to-be more wardrobe choices.

Standouts include the versatile Everything Dress ($298) and the roomy, yet fashion forward Button Down Shirt ($168 to $248).

It’s never too early to get you kids involved and what better way than with Crewcut‘s cool limited-edition  Victorious tee ($25).

Designed by Dallas Clayton (the man behind the Awesome book series), it supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which helps those with blood cancers live longer, happier lives.

The bright, whimsical T-shirt was also inspired by a young boy, Milo, who unfortunately lost his battle with leukemia last year. The 2-year-old was a big fan of Clayton’s books and loved to have them read during his treatment.

Want one? It’s available online and in stores. Added bonus: All of the proceeds are donated to the LLS and J.Crew is waiving all shipping costs.
