Casey Wilson is generally good at making people laugh, but her 15-month-old son Max Red really makes her work for it.

“If I can get a laugh out of him, I feel I’m really at the top of my game,” the star of the upcoming film The Masterpiece, 35, tells PEOPLE. “He doesn’t give it up so easily!”

A bit of physical comedy usually does the trick.

“It’s sort of back to basics with him,” says Wilson. “I did do a little clown work in this bouncy house he was crawling around in. I did some pratfalls, and that seemed to get him — not for long — but I thought, ‘I still got it.’ ”

The former Marry Me star and husband David Caspe have welcomed their first child, a baby boy, PEOPLE confirms.

The actress, 34, announced her pregnancy in December, telling PEOPLE that she was “really, really excited” to be expecting.

And in January, Wilson was thrilled to find out that she and the Marry Me and Happy Endings creator would be welcoming a son in the spring.

“I thought I wanted a girl, but I almost felt relieved when I found out I was having a boy,” she later told Fit Pregnancy. “Having lost my mom, and having had such a close mother-daughter relationship, I felt like somehow, I wasn’t ready for a girl.”

Casey Wilson: Why I Was ‘Relieved’ to Find Out I’m Having a Boy

When Casey Wilson found out she was pregnant, the baby bliss instantly kicked in.

But for the mom-to-be — whose own mother died eight years ago — the excitement of expecting her first child with husband David Caspe was bittersweet.

“It’s simply not the experience of knowing your mom is going to come out for two months and help take care of the baby,” Wilson, 34, says in the April/May issue of Fit Pregnancy.

Those feelings came into play when Wilson decided to find out the sex of her baby on the way. Although she had initially dreamed of having a daughter, she was hoping to see a blue cake slice at her gender reveal party.

“I thought I wanted a girl, but I almost felt relieved when I found out I was having a boy,” she shares. “Having lost my mom, and having had such a close mother-daughter relationship, I felt like somehow, I wasn’t ready for a girl.”

There are plenty of perks to being pregnant, but unfortunately for Casey Wilson, it’s her husband who’s reaping the benefits of a baby on the way.

“He won’t allow me my comforts,” the Marry Me star told PEOPLE of David Caspe at Tuesday’s debut of Rachel Zoe‘s maternity collaboration with A Pea in the Pod.

“I got this big pregnancy pillow and he’s taken both of them for his own back and neck and shoulders.”

She adds, “He has one propped behind him and in front and he’s like, ‘This is the best invention. This pregnancy pillow is everything I’ve ever wanted.’ I’m sitting over there like, ‘That’s mine, buddy.’ ”

Marry Me wasn’t the end to Casey Wilson‘s happily ever after.

The actress is expecting her first child with her husband, film and TV writer David Caspe, she confirms to PEOPLE.

Finally out of a tough first trimester that left her “feeling so tired and sick,” Wilson is starting to prep for her bundle of joy — but in baby steps.

“I’m trying to collect as many pearls of advice as I can,” the mom-to-be, 34, tells PEOPLE. “I’ve been feeling so sick, [but a girlfriend told me] showing up is all you need to do. I really appreciated that because I’m an overachiever and I was getting down on myself for feeling so tired and sick.”

Luckily for the comedian, her cast and crew — including on-screen husband Ken Marino — have jumped to make things easier for her on set.
