Anna Chlumsky on Her Pregnancy Cravings: ‘I Want Japanese Food All the Time!’

05/13/2016 at 05:00 PM ET

Anna Chlumsky might play the Vice President’s super busy Chief of Staff Amy Brookheimer on Veep, but in real life, she has something else big on her mind: pregnancy cravings.

“[During] my first pregnancy, it was all butter and pastries and sugar,” Chlumsky, who is six months along in her second pregnancy, shared during an interview for Thursday’s episode of Last Call with Carson Daly.

“It’s funny because [2½-year-old daughter Penelope Joan] will lick the icing off of something. So I’m like, ‘Does that correlate with the cravings?’ ”

Anna Chlumsky Shows Off Baby Bump at 31st Annual Lucille Lortel Awards

05/11/2016 at 01:00 PM ET

Anna Chlumsky is the epitome of a glowing mom-to-be.

The Veep star made an appearance at the 31st Annual Lucille Lortel Awards in New York City on May 2, donned a brightly colored dress that showcased her baby bump perfectly. Chlumsky completed the look with pointed-toe heels, red nails, natural makeup, and a relaxed, wavy hairstyle.

Chlumsky, 35, announced in April that she is expecting her second child this year with entrepreneur husband Shaun So. The twosome, who tied the knot in 2008, already have one daughter: Penelope Joan, 2½.

“I spend every morning thinking about this person in my family,” the Emmy-nominated actress told PEOPLE of motherhood back in September. “Does it feel like what I saw on TV growing up? Not really, but that’s what’s cool about it.”

There’s a little VP on the way for Anna Chlumsky.

The Veep star and husband Shaun So are expecting their second child later this year, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

So and Chlumsky, who wed in 2008, are already parents to 2½-year-old daughter Penelope Joan.

This whole thing has taught me that motherhood has a wealth of definitions and identities,” the actress, 35, previously said. “There’s no one way to be a mom or one way to be a ‘good’ mom.”

Anna Chlumsky Talks Motherhood: ‘There’s No One Way to Be a Mom’

09/21/2015 at 03:35 PM ET

Though she first became famous for her role in the 1991 film My Girl, Veep star Anna Chlumsky has a different girl on her mind these days: 2-year-old daughter Penelope Joan.

“It’s awesome. I love it,” Chlumsky, 34, told PEOPLE about being a parent with husband Shaun So. “She’s becoming her own person and it’s delicious to watch.”

At the National Women’s History Museum brunch in Los Angeles on Saturday, Chlumsky raved about her daughter’s developing personality.

“She’s really fun and really sweet. And she’s very determined. I love all those things about her. If she wasn’t my daughter, I’d want to hang out with her still. She’s really good company,” joked the first-time mom.

How exciting is it for your mom to be nominated for an Emmy? For a 2-year-old, the answer is…’Meh.’

At least that was the case for Anna Chlumsky‘s little one, Penelope. The Veep star, who just learned she was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Thursday morning — We knew it! — says that despite her own excitement, her toddler was super chill about the whole thing.

When she got the news, “I was in the kitchen cleaning up my daughter from lunch, just getting ready to start the beans that I was putting in the slow cooker for tonight,” Chlumsky, 34, tells PEOPLE.

But then Hollywood came a-calling. “It was funny, I was on the phone taking calls about the news and I looked over and my daughter was doing this thing where she lays down on the floor, just relaxing,” says the actress with a laugh. “Goes to show, whatever’s happening in Mommy’s world doesn’t have to interrupt her leisure time.”

It’s only been six months since she gave birth to her daughter, Penelope Joan, but Anna Chlumsky has already regained her slender, pre-pregnancy figure, and for the Veep star there’s no mystery as to how she did it.

“People have asked this, and I’ve gone, ‘Oh, I don’t know!’ Of course I know,” the actress, 33, told PEOPLE at the Entertainment Weekly Screen Actors Guild Party in Hollywood.

“I exercised a lot while I was pregnant, I did pregnancy workout tapes five days a week, and I did pregnancy yoga once a week. I was exercising, and it was the best thing.”

Not that expectant mothers need to learn anything more about fatigue, but the actress — who burst onto the scene in 1991’s My Girl — feels that you can either fall prey to tiredness or get physical, and that’s why she’s a proponent of working out during pregnancy.
