Chelsea Clinton on Exposing Her Kids to World News: ‘I Read the Headlines’ to Them ‘Every Day’

But the former First Daughter makes sure to prioritize ensuring that her children are being exposed to the world around them in a way they can gradually come to understand.
“I read the [newspaper] headlines to [2-year-old daughter Charlotte] and to her little brother Aidan, who’s 3½ months,” Clinton, 36, told Seth Meyers on Wednesday night’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers.
She explained, “The first thing I remember learning how to read is the newspaper.”

Clinton knows, however, that her kids are a little young to grasp to depth of the news stories she’s sharing with them right now.
“I realize they don’t quite understand what I’m talking about,” the proud mom said, “but hopefully it’ll just be part of their lives so that when they do understand, they will have opinions. I’m just so excited to learn what they’re going to be most curious about, interested in and angry about.”
“I don’t read the things that I don’t think children should be hearing,” Clinton said. “Of any age.”

Joked Meyers in response, “With the newspaper, you’re probably like, ‘Page 1, 2, 19, 20 … there we go, 25.’ ”
“There is definitely selective reading,” Clinton agreed.
