Kerry Washington and her baby bump have hit the Emmys red carpet!

The 39-year-old actress stunned on the 2016 Emmy Awards red carpet in a custom black, Brandon Maxwell cut-out bustier gown that perfectly flaunted her baby belly.

The strapless ensemble came equipped with a cut-out just above the belly and a long, cape-like addition stretching down to the floor.

Topping off the look, the expecting actress sported long, voluminous curls — a ‘do her stylist promised would be “something very special.”

“[Kerry’s hair] has to be something very special. Because she’s pregnant, it’s gonna have to be [a style] that will blow everyone away,” Washington’s longtime hairstylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew previously told PEOPLE.

For the expecting mom, red carpet preparation requires a sartorial confidence boost. “When you’re a pregnant lady on the red carpet, you need to feel like a superhero,” Washington told Extra.

During the same interview, comedian Jimmy Fallon jumped in to make a cameo — and chat with Washington’s unborn baby.

“Ah! You look gorgeous! So good to see you … what is happening?” Fallon told Washington, directing his attention toward her noticeable bump. “Hi, baby! Hi, baby! It’s Jimmy! I can’t wait to meet you — it’s gonna be so fun. I’m going to see you backstage someday!”

Washington is expecting her second child with husband Nnamdi Asomugha. The couple are already parents to 2-year-old daughter Isabelle Amarachi. And while she didn’t provide an exact due date, she admitted that she’s close to the finish line — and finding out the sex of her baby on the way.

“We don’t know yet … I’m open … honestly, healthy, happy baby — that’s what we want,” she said. “I’m close, I’m close. If you see me scooting across stage, it’s ’cause we have another week of shooting — we’ve got to keep it inside.”

As for her not-so-pregnant alter ego Olivia Pope? The star of Scandal said they’ve been getting creative to cover her bump.

“We’re hiding behind bags and boxes and things — big coats, big Prada bags,” she said.

Washington was nominated for outstanding lead actress in a limited series or a movie for her role in Confirmation.

Such a beautiful picture, capturing the beauty of an expectant mother

Stunned on the Emmys?! Seriously? Her stylist wants the look to be special?! It’s not.

Kari – you’re look is tired. You’re trying too hard. Just ponder a moment to figure out WHO YOU are and stop trying to fit into a mold that isn’t you. It’s a huge turn off, seriously.

Kerry looks stunning!

zoey on

oh Jennifer, so much hate.

Mrs. B on

No!!!

Edyie on

Def agree with the comment she’s trying too hard. Not into it at all. Classiness pregnant or not seems to have gone by the wayside.

yasemina on

The look is great for Halloween, is she auditioning for a role as Wednesday Adam’s imaginary friend?

I’d like to see some A-listers instead of this C-list pretender and her ridiculous look. Why aren’t we seeing Robin Wright and Claire Danes? How about the adorable Stranger Things kids?

JT on

Tasteless.

guestie on

How does she even lie down to sleep with all that hair on the head? She most likely will have it taken down after the show. Oy!

Gaby on

Not a fan of the hair nor the dress:/

Angela Bassett on

She looks horrible. Ugly dress, ugly hair, visible deodorant. Overrated actress.

Callie on

She looked ridiculous and her hair looked awful! Where was her stylist?

g on

Gorgeous! Love her dress!

If you know black Chyna, please show her this picture….Because this is how an expectant mother should look when she’s young, in love and happy. Kerry you are glowing, and your style team did a fabulous job.

kar on

Are you kidding with this outfit? She looks ridiculous. Far from stunning that’s for sure.

“Stunned”? IMO, only in a bad way – for me her hair was awful, it remembered me a lion or a witch and the outfit? Let´s just say I´ve seen her wearing a lot better!!!

Summer on

Not a fan of this look, which is disappointing because she normally looks amazing.

I want this comment to be directed to ALL the posts that said Ms. Kerry Washington is “trying too hard”. I just want to know WHAT IS TRYING TO HARD? The fact that you think you KNOW her personally is quite alarming. How do you know she is not being HER. I absolutely LOVE her dress and thinks she looks amazing. I bet MOST of you who made hateful comments thinks Walmart is high end shopping. When are women going to learn to uplift each other than tear each other down. Get a life and get a clue you hateful birds! You all can carry on living now!

Who cares whether it’s a boy or a girl, we won’t get to see the baby anyway just like the first one which we have yet to see.

to those who said kerry tried too hard. really??? what was she trying too hard to accomplish, when she already has it all ….. brains, beauty, talent, love from family, friends, fans, and a very accomplished career behind and in front of her? oh, and did i mention, wealth? wouldn’t you love to be in her position of “trying too hard?”

Perfect fit on

The person who needs to be praised here is the designer & seamstress. To fit an ever growing bump so perfectly? Amazing.

Zoey, I actually watch Scandal and admire Kerry Washington very much; I only hate the hair and dress. And I don’t shop at Walmart Nikki. You seem to be in the minority of comments in saying the look was stunning. I had an opinion and expressed it honestly without hate and, unlike you, I won’t hurl insults at people who disagree with me.

She looked fabulous and I loveee that she’s rocking her natural hair! Everyone who said her hair is ugly, think about how harmful those words are to little black girls who feel self conscious about their hair. You should be ashamed of yourselves!
