If her kids somehow aren’t Lisa Loeb‘s biggest fans by now, they’re certainly about to be.

The “Stay (I Missed You)” singer spoke with PEOPLE about lending her voice to the Amazon Original kids’ series Creative Galaxy. And her little ones with husband Roey Hershkovitz — son Emet Kuli, 4, and daughter Lyla Rose, 6½ — are sure to be stoked about their mom’s newest endeavor.

Lyla and Emet haven’t seen it yet, but as soon as it’s ready to be seen, I’m sure they’ll be really excited,” says Loeb, 48, who voices a new character named Melody in season 2 of the animated series.

Adds the singer, who also voices Princess Winger in the wildly popular Disney Junior series Jake and the Never Land Pirates, “They love all aspects of the arts, which are featured in this show, and they always find it magical to hear their mom’s voice coming out of a cute animated character.”

The interactive series follows main characters Arty and Epiphany, who take preschoolers on a journey around the galaxy and use different forms of art — sculpting, painting, music, cooking and more — to overcome challenges.

“When I was invited to do the project, I immediately wanted to be a part of it,” says Loeb, who joins an already star-studded voice cast including Samantha Bee, Cloris Leachman and Jason Priestley. “It was so exciting to see how it came together.”

Continues the PEOPLE blogger (whose character Melody will, fittingly, focus on singing and dancing), “Although I’m normally very involved in every part of the creative process in my own projects, for Creative Galaxy, the creative team designed the character based on me within the style of their show.”

Loeb also touches on some challenges of her work/life balance, saying it’s “always complicated” but that she and Hershkovitz make it work.

“My work is always multi-faceted, including everything from writing and recording music to touring to working on my eyewear line and touring away from home, and more,” she tells PEOPLE.  “I try to make the home life feel like a secure, safe, warm home, and I like to be there when the kids are there, so it’s hard to balance.”

Adds Loeb, “It takes a lot of scheduling, planning and teamwork from my husband and grandparents too! It’s always evolving.”

Aside from her new animated adventures and parenting duties, the “I Do” songstress — whose last studio release was a compilation of nursery rhymes in 2015 — has a brand new album coming out in October.

“It’s a family-friendly record that I’m really proud of,” says the mom of two about Feel What U Feel, whose title track Amazon Prime members can stream now. “It even includes two duets with Craig Robinson: a remake of the classic ‘It’s All Right to Cry’ from Free to Be … You And Me, and a new disco funk jam called ‘Feel What U Feel.’

“My friends Ed Helms, Rich Jacques, Renee Stahl, Kyler England and others collaborated with me to make the record too,” she adds.

Creative Galaxy season 2 premieres Friday, Sept. 16, on Amazon.com. Loeb’s newest album, Feel What U Feel, drops Friday, Oct. 7, but is currently available for preorder on Amazon for $8.99.

I had the opportunity to meet Lisa many years ago at a dinner party in Maui, before she had her little ones. She was so nice to my daughter. Lisa is very talented. Wish her luck with this new endeavor
