At this point, it’s pretty clear Michael Phelps feels more at home in a pool than anywhere else.
If you need proof, just look at how he chose to spend quality time with his family after a grueling 6-medal run at the Rio Olympics.
On Wednesday, he posted a photo of himself, his fiancée Nicole Johnson and their baby Boomer Robert hanging out in Phelps’ natural habitat — a pool.
“There’s nothing like being back home!!” he captioned the sweet snap. “Great way to spend my first day in retirement!!”

After finishing his fifth Olympics and bringing up his medal total to 28 (making his personal total higher than 90 countries), the 31-year-old told PEOPLE, “It’s time for me to start the next chapter of my life.”
“I have a beautiful fiancée, a beautiful baby boy [whom] I want to spend as much time with as I can,” he adds. “I’ve been able to accomplish everything I could ever dream of [with professional swimming], and it’s time to move on.”
He added that he’s most looking forward to not missing another day with his 3-month-old son, who’s growing up right before his eyes. And he clearly meant it.
On Tuesday, Johnson shared a photo of Phelps and Boomer cuddling up on a plane in matching grey shirts. “So excited to spend a lil r&r with these 2!!” she wrote.
“He’s locking onto things and staring at things now, so you really do see him growing — not just physically growing, but you can tell he’s getting older. And it’s just a cool feeling watching him grow up,” he said.
With all the free time that comes with retirement, Phelps just might have time to start pursuing another dream of his — having a big family.
“So we started off on a perfect note: We got a boy,” he says. “We got a beautiful, healthy baby boy, and we’re looking to continue to grow our family.”
