Blake Lively Calls Out Post-Baby Body Shamers: ‘It’s So Unfair’

08/10/2016 at 01:00 AM ET

Blake Lively does not care to know what you think of a woman’s body after giving birth.

During an appearance on Australian morning show Sunrise Lively, 28, tackled the issue after the interviewer complimented her bikini-ready body in her latest movie The Shallows — filmed months after Lively welcomed her first child, daughter James, now 19 months old.

“It’s so unfair though, because it’s so celebrated,” the pregnant actress said. “It’s like, this is what someone can look like after a baby. I think a woman’s body after having a baby is pretty amazing.”

Lively continued, explaining that new moms shouldn’t feel the pressure to immediately bounce back to their pre-baby body, because they’ve just created life.

“You don’t need to be Victoria’s Secret ready right away because you just did the most incredible miracle that life has to offer,” Lively added. “I mean you gave birth to a human being! So I would really like to see that celebrated.”

In April, a source close to the actress confirmed that she was expecting her second child with husband Ryan Reynolds.

“Blake is absolutely thrilled and so is Ryan,” the source added.

Nearly a month later Lively debuted her baby bump at the red carpet premiere of her new movie Café Society during the Cannes Film Festival.

Shut up, there are many women who don’t give birth and they are left out of your miracle experience. Unless you live in Hollywood, nobody cares what your body looks like.

Yo on

Blake Lively, please don’t listen to people who comment on that. All that matters is you, your family, your career, your life, your fans… Not some FATASS sitting behind a computer trying to make you feel bad. Ugh… middle finger up at those ppl lol. They are probably some fat, ugly, pimply ass trolls anyway.

Nancy, I am one of those women who has not blessed with a baby of my own, and I am happy for this lady! It is a miracle and it is wonderful that she is healthy enough to have two babies and the physique that her work requires.

a Woman shouldn’t have to get back to her pre-baby body at all. If she is a bit heavier or wider after having given birth, so what? The body changes, you get stretchmark, the hips widen, the breast may be smaller or bigger, this is nothing to be ashamed about but a natural process. No one blames men who get a beer belly but women who create new life are blamed and shamed nonstop

Blake you are beautiful!

Some of u ladies here are aholes. Wow.

I don’t know if it’s my age or my culture, but I’ve never been pressured about losing weight after having a baby. A mature person realizes that it took nearly one year to gain the weight and it’s going to take time to get it off. I’d never let anybody put pressure on me about my body. I would shut that conversation down right away!

A lot of bitter hags here. I was blessed with a child. I did not have trouble losing the baby weight. I think women like Blake speak from their own experiences. Like all moms do. The difference is our conversations aren’t recorded and printed for all the world to see. If they were I am guessing the majority would go into hiding. The brave keyboard warriors here are nothing but cowards.

Wow, Taran tula and Tara you are so grade school. You called people names, you are so mature.look in the mirror

Seems Blake must have heard from you vile women here. What the heck is wrong with you? She was asked a question and answered it. Didn’t your parents teach you if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. Wow. Grow up. You are pathetic.

I got back to pre baby weight with both my kids. After my second, it took two years of hard work and smart eating. I see nothing wrong with what she says. And for some of you on here, what is wrong with wanting to be in shape after having children? I’m definitely not going to be ashamed of having great health and a fine physique in my forties.

She handled this well! She was complimented for a quick return to her pre baby weight, and she thanked them but then noted that there’s a sick obsession with women’s bodies post-baby. Good for her! She also had her daughter 2 months early, in addition to being young and her first, which may have aided in her quick bounce back. Regardless, the celebration should be on new life, not how fast a woman can get back in her jeans!

I don’t get it. She went right back after having her baby and shot a movie 8 months later looking incredible. But then says women shouldn’t feel any pressure? Is she kidding? If you’re part of what generates such pressure, isn’t that message contradictory? Her whole movie is “this is what someone can look like after a baby” but then she criticizes it? It doesn’t make ANY sense.

NoDoubt! on

I agree, yet these celebs lose the baby weight right away. I think it might be a little contradictory though. I hope Blake focuses on her baby and not on her weight.

Alfredo on

She had a PERFECT body in The Shallows, from head to toes, absolutely perfect.

Those saying that it does not matter YES IT DOES are silly,it’s her job to look amazing.

guest on

She and Ryan are by far the best looking Celebrity couple…and they seem the nicest too!

deanna on

Well I think I just became a fan. I cannot believe some of the horrible comments. I think she is right. I am sure she had to get into shape faster than most women because it is part of her job, just like some of us women had to give up breast feeding earlier than desired because we had to go back to work (in the days before you could pump in a private area). I wish her and her family the best.

Whatever on

It’s sooooooo unfair…. Just get giant nasty fake booooo bs like I did

fatalreview on

it’s also “unfair” how you can literally be paid for standing around and having your photo taken-Blake has a career because she is the stereotypical blonde hottie-thats how she makes her cash-no one would be asking her to do any of the stuff she does for a paycheck if she look like Rosanne Barr-she is one of the standards that other women get judged by -her photo edited cover shots and modeling stuff-etc etc-it’s curious as to why women who make their $$$ off of being good looking get so put off when the judgement comes back on them-when they are asking for it and creating the bias making $$$ off their unrealistic “images” in magazines-its a live by the sword die by the sword kind of thing

I have reed your post very carefully.Me to have a baby and he sleeps in baby cot everyday. I was thinking of shifting him to bed from past few days but was confused whether i should do it or not. After reading this my confusion is gone and i am ready to make the change of cot to bed for my baby.
