Jeff Goldblum on Swimming with His Son Charlie: ‘He Loves It!’
Jeff Goldblum loves the ocean for many reasons — so much, in fact, that he named his son after it.
The 63-year-old Independence Day: Resurgence star stepped out with wife Emilie Livingston to support Oceana at a Sting concert held at a private residence in the Hollywood Hills on Tuesday night, but he couldn’t get his mind off his son Charlie Ocean.
“He’s about to go to sleep right about now,” the actor said right before going into a play-by-play of his son’s evening routine. “We would have given him his bath at around 6:20 p.m. ordinarily, and right now he’d be getting his last bottle and he’d hear a story.”
The couple are blown away on a daily basis by their son, who turned a year old on July 4. “He’s doing this thing where he’s handing things back and forth,” Goldblum said. “He gave me some things. I gave them back to him and he gave them to her.”

Even though Goldblum and Livingston were out to enjoy a romantic backyard Sting concert, they’re blessed with regular “date nights” at home due to the fact that Charlie is such a great sleeper.
“We’re lucky — he’s a really good sleeper,” Livingston says. “I put him down at 7:15 p.m. and he falls asleep around 7:30 p.m. or 7:40 p.m. So we watch some TV.”
It’s not necessarily as simple as it sounds, though. Like most moms, Livingston also has had to figure out her son’s sleep patterns.
“I found that in the beginning he slept more,” she confesses. “He was taking longer [naps]. Now he’s taking less naps. So it’s always an evolving process. It’s not like, ‘Ah-ha! Here’s the trick.’ ”
Trick or not, the most fun they have as a family seems to be in the water. “We go to the pool every day,” adds Livingston. “He wanted to go back and forth, he was liking reaching for Daddy.”
All this bonding time has made Daddy proud. “Oh, he was great in the pool today,” the actor says.
And when pushed to mention his favorite time spent with his son, the answer was easy: bath time!
“We get in the bathtub every night, the three of us, and we give him a bath,” Goldblum says. “So cute.”
