Vanessa Lachey: Father’s Day Is About ‘Moments with the Kids’
Father’s Day is coming up, and while some wives love picking out ties for the dads in their lives, Vanessa Lachey isn’t stressed about buying Nick Lachey — her husband of almost five years — the perfect gift.
“I think Nick and I are at a point in our relationship where Father’s Day and Mother’s Day is just more about the kids showing their love as opposed to gifts,” Lachey, 35, told PEOPLE at the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance’s 3rd Annual Super Saturday in Santa Monica, California, on Saturday.
Lachey — who’s mom to Camden John, 3½, and Brooklyn Elisabeth, 17 months — was on hand to hang out in the Mary Kay tent, helping promote the brand’s Nourishine Plus lip gloss and even wore the Pink Parfait hue.

“When I was pregnant, [Nick] gave me a gift and I gave him a gift and then [again] when [each of our kids was a year old], but now my son’s 3. He can draw his own card,” she says.
“My daughter is 1. She can tell him, ‘I love you, Happy Father’s Day.’ So it’s more about the moments with the kids.”
Aside from not worrying about a gift, the former MTV VJ and Miss Teen USA knows that her “down-to-earth” and “chill” husband will enjoy any type of celebration.
“Honestly, anything that I do that involves our kids and me is going to be something that he’s going to love,” she says.
And even though the couple’s Father’s Day plans are a little more low key, it doesn’t mean Lachey doesn’t have ideas percolating that will help Nick, 42, connect with his roots.
“I’d love to do something outside,” she adds. “Some sort of picnic or some fun day outside. He’s from the Midwest, so something where we can all be together and play outside would be perfect.”
