Alec and Hilaria Baldwin on Kids Carmen and Rafael: They’re ‘Very Opinionated’

06/08/2016 at 02:10 PM ET

Zinging one-liners at the podium, Alec Baldwin was hilarious as the emcee of the 2016 Fragrance Foundation Awards in New York City on Tuesday.

He has also, on occasion, been known to have a strong opinion. And apparently, his children — daughter Carmen Gabriela, 2½, and son Rafael Thomas, 11 months — are following in their father’s footsteps.

“Carmen is very opinionated,” Hilaria Baldwin, 32, who’s expecting the couple’s second son, told PEOPLE of their daughter.

“[She’s] very verbal,” adds ebullient dad Alec, 58. “Just interesting phrases. This morning, I said, ‘Would you like to sit down and read a book with me?’ And she said, ‘Of course.’ She’s very sophisticated.”

“Our son is a moment away from walking,” Alec adds. “He’s tough, a tank. But happy — he’s a very happy child.”

“He’s almost walking,” interjects Hilaria of Rafael, “but he’s very interested in crawling because he likes his independence. He wants to smash everything.”

Though both kids obviously seem wise beyond their years — or in Rafael’s case, months — their penchant for conversation differs.

“Our daughter started talking at 5 months,” Hilaria says. “Compared to her, he doesn’t talk as much. His words are ‘Mama,’ ‘Dada.’ ”

But apparently when the Baldwins’ kids, including Rafael, do talk, they make their words count.

“We have very opinionated children,” Hilaria continues. “[Rafael] is very opinionated, too, but he only has five words. My kids are very smart, they say ‘Mama’ first. And ‘no,’ — he’s very good at ‘no.’ ”

” ‘Come, come,’ ” adds Alec, who is also dad to 20-year-old daughter Ireland with ex Kim Basinger.

“And ‘dog,’ ” Hilaria says.

Did anyone doubt that their kids would be opinionated? Anyway, she’s an interesting chick, although I couldn’t take a steady diet of her. She breaks into spontaneous yoga poses in the weirdest places like it’s normal. Social media was built for this woman because I think she’d shrivel up and blow away if she didn’t have constant attention.

A child of Alec Baldwin opinionated? Fancy that!

“My kids are very smart” is an unbecoming statement from Mrs. Baldwin. Unbecoming, annoying, and such a cliche. And Carmen finally, phew, has HAIR.

Third kid soooo not necessary

So far the only people leaving comments are the typical, and oh so reliable, negative ones. I guess they’re not getting enough sunshine.
I love following Hilaria’s comments and videos on Instagram. She’s a very positive, empathetic person. I love seeing the pics and reading about her kids. She and Alec have made something beautiful together.

I have to agree with you Sanaa – sounds like a lot of people here who follow Hilaria just to say negative things about her. It’s fairly simple: if you don’t like her or agree with her then don’t follow her on social media or read the story. I personally think she is quite refreshing and I love that she treats Ireland as her own and not as an addition to “her” little family. It’s nice to see that being a step child myself.

So forced, its almost like a projectile vomit. Looks smug, voice irritati g beyond belief.

Finally her daughter grow some hair.

Their marriage is a true folie a deux. They need to take a page from the far classier Steve and Anne Martin’s book.

Apparently Alec has forgotten (or never knew) Ireland as a toddler. He’s describing very average child developmental stages — nothing special and nothing worrisome.

She has a cute daughter.
