Dania Ramirez on Going Back to Work Two Weeks After Giving Birth to Twins: ‘It Was a Really Good Learning Experience’

Supermom, anyone?

Just a couple of weeks after giving birth to her twins – daughter Gaia Jissel and son John AetherDania Ramirez  was back on the Devious Maids set, ready to work.

“I also went to work two and a half weeks after I had the babies,” the actress, 36, told reporters at the Devious Maids season 4 premiere party on Thursday. “And it’s twins. So you can imagine, I still can’t wrap my head around it. I still ask myself this question every single day.”

Ramirez adds, “I think it was a really good learning experience for me as an actress and, also, as a mother. I didn’t really have time to double guess anything.”

The actress, who welcomed her babies in 2014 with husband John Beverly Amos Land, admits that going back to work was no easy task.

“I think, for me, the season where I had the babies was very difficult because there was just no time,” she says. “With two babies, I was getting like 15 minutes, maybe, of sleep in between feedings and changing them. But it definitely made me stronger, and it made me feel like I was a better actress in a way. So I think it definitely defined a lot of the characteristics that I took with my character.”

These moments… Make it all worth it.

Now, her little ones are 2 years old with blooming personalities.

“They’re incredible,” says Ramirez. “I think mother of twins, the one thing that you, from my opinion, need to have is just patience. And it really puts everything into perspective, for me, anyway. I’m working in that industry that’s always up and down, and it’s always hectic.”

She adds, “There’s nothing more motivating, there’s nothing more fulfilling than knowing that I’m doing it for them.”

Going back to work this early should not be celebrated… it is appalling and disgraceful the provided/expected maternity leave in the US. Most women don’t heal completely before 6 weeks after childbirth, and many need more time to bond with and feed their babies. I’m going back to work next week after 12 weeks, and I feel like my arm is being amputated since I will miss my baby so much. Most women cannot afford top nannies and have to put their kids in daycare with a bunch of other babies and staff who gets paid minimum wage. Everyone has a mother… would you want your mom to suffer like that?

I don’t think she deserves the title of supermom! I gave birth naturally to twins, and I chose to use the weeks after their birth to bond with them, not prove to an industry that I can do it all. I also had a not-quite 2 year old at the time. I went back to work (sadly) when my 12 weeks of FMLA (most of it unpaid) was over. I’m guessing she was a “supermom” in the typical celebrity sense – nanny, housekeeper, personal trainer, etc. A real super mom does it ALL with just the help of her husband (and in some cases not!) and perhaps close family. Celebrate those moms, not this one!

Dania looks amazing.

Wow, it’s good for Dania that it worked out for her, but I can’t imagine leaving 2 week old babies to get back to work. I understand it’s television show and her schedule was probably tight, but I’d be incredibly sad.

Going to have to agree with the other people commenting here. Going back to work so quickly after having a baby/babies is nothing to be celebrated. Your body is nowhere near healed two or three weeks after giving birth and your babies are very, very young. They still need Mom! She is well within her rights to do whatever she wanted but as a young woman that wants nothing more than to be a Momma and can’t have children, this article makes me sad and, quite frankly, somewhat disgusted. Talk about seriously messed up priorities!!!

I don’t think women like her should be having kids. It’s clear to me that her priorities are completely out of whack. Who in their right mind thinks it’s a no-brainer to go back to work after deliver TWINS two weeks before? Personally, I think any person who gets into the entertainment industry has a certain type of self absorbed, narcissistic personality about themselves. They love the spotlight and attention in such a competitive environment. Most of the time, these are the type of individuals who put themselves above everything else, even parenthood, because there’s nannies to raise their kids and they can’t accept time away from the spotlight. It’s sad that this type of situation is being praised. It’s not admirable whatsoever.
