Holly Madison on What She’ll Tell Rainbow About the Playboy Mansion: ‘I Want Her to Realize There Is a Way to Feel Beautiful Without Exploiting Yourself’

05/17/2016 at 02:45 PM ET

Her daughter Rainbow Aurora is only 3 years old, but Holly Madison can already see the familial similarities.

“She’s very particular about things she likes,” Madison, 36, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “And she gets frustrated easily — I do too!”

When it comes to the future, the former star of The Girls Next Door says she’ll be open with Rainbow about her own past — tough times and all.

“I would love for my daughter to learn from me,” says Madison, whose new book, The Vegas Diaries, is out Tuesday. “I want to share all my experiences, the ups and downs.”

Says the former Playmate, who in her book details the pain and insecurities of living in the appearance-obsessed Playboy Mansion with ex Hugh Hefner, “In my 20s, I was the shy violet in the corner trying to be nice all the time. That can get you in a lot of trouble.”

Continues Madison, “I want Rainbow to learn to be verbal and stand up for herself. If I could go back, I’d be a lot more outspoken. I wouldn’t have allowed myself to be made to feel less than.”

As for whether she’d allow her daughter to ever pose for something like Playboy?

“Never,” says Madison. “I want her to be confident and realize that there are ways to feel beautiful without exploiting yourself or putting yourself out there in a way you might regret. I want her to have respect for herself.”

Madison is expecting her second child — a boy — with husband Pasquale Rotella in August.

Exactly what your parents said when you were a child. I doubt many parents would want their daughters to be in Playboy. I hope you do raise a confident secure young lady but children will surprise you and want to make their own choices and own mistakes.

Holly seems to be in need of some publicity. Anyone that watched Girls Next Door knows she’s full of B.S. Of course she would outfit her kid in Burberry for the photo shoot. She’s as classless as they come.

This, honestly, makes me ill! Stop blaming your choices on others!! You wouldn’t be where you are today without your playboy mansion stay! Unless Heff dragged you there and kept you locked in the cellar you won’t get any sympathy from me and I find it pathetic that you are still trying to whore yourself by writing book after book about this “tragic” time! Get over it…move on!!

Ok, the kid is gorgeous and Holly looks amazing!!!! She doesn’t look like the trashy girl from the playboy mansion! Maybe she’s changed???? Motherhood sometimes changes people!!! Maybe she’s different now. It’s true, she wouldn’t be where she is without the playboy folk but maybe she realised there’s more to life than that rubbish. I don’t hear much from her nowadays!

Holly is not with Playboy long time ago, so move on.

That’s the thing. Parents hope their children learn from their mistakes but that just doesn’t happen often. Rainbow will see her mother’s current actions, which are still fame hungry, and she will learn from THAT. Holly could disappear into a normal life if she wanted to, people much more famous than her have done so.
