Anna Chlumsky on Her Pregnancy Cravings: ‘I Want Japanese Food All the Time!’

Anna Chlumsky might play the Vice President’s super busy Chief of Staff Amy Brookheimer on Veep, but in real life, she has something else big on her mind: pregnancy cravings.

“[During] my first pregnancy, it was all butter and pastries and sugar,” Chlumsky, who is six months along in her second pregnancy, shared during an interview for Thursday’s episode of Last Call with Carson Daly.

“It’s funny because [2½-year-old daughter Penelope Joan] will lick the icing off of something. So I’m like, ‘Does that correlate with the cravings?’ ”

But this time around has been quite different for the Emmy-nominated star.

“With this pregnancy, I want Japanese food all the time,” Chlumsky, 35, says. “I want sushi!”

The interviewer then jokes whether there’s a chance Chlumsky could have a Japanese baby, and she assumes he’s referencing her husband, entrepreneur Shaun So, who is Chinese.

“Chinese people and Japanese people are not the same, just so everybody knows,” she replies.

But when the interviewer asks, “Oh, is your husband Chinese?” and clarifies he just meant because she is craving Japanese food, Chlumsky laughs hard and claps her hands, realizing it was all a misunderstanding.

“I know, I know, I’m just playing!” she says, flashing the megawatt smile she made famous as Vada Sultenfuss in 1991’s My Girl.

Chlumsky, who married So in 2008, told PEOPLE in September that “there’s no one way to be a mom or one way to be a ‘good’ mom.”

She also said recently that she and her family are trying to relax a bit before the arrival of baby number two.

“Being as expectant as I am, we’re going to keep it low-key and try to get a beach vacation in pretty soon,” she noted in a Facebook chat with Travel and Leisure in April.

She seems awesome and very nice. I’ve got to watch this Veep show she is on, since I can only remember that adorable girl in the My Girl Movie.

To Wow: My son is half-Japanese and he was always asked whether he was Chinese or Hispanic, so I get her response as she thought the reporter knew her hubby was Asian, but in this case he did not know and she quickly realized. With that said, white people (like myself) would get upset if people automatically called us IRISH or ENGLISH without even knowing what our ethnicity is.

@Wow – To her credit, it was a weird comment for the interviewer to make and I 100% thought that was what he meant too, knowing her husband is Chinese.

She looks gorgeous, so happy for her.
