Queen Latifah Jokes About Becoming an Adoptive Mother: ‘I Got Three on the Way from China’

03/10/2016 at 03:00 PM ET

Queen Latifah is keeping her lips sealed about whether she plans to become a mother anytime soon.

At the world premiere of her new film Miracles from Heaven in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Latifah, 45, spoke to PEOPLE about whether her maternal character in the film sparked a real-life desire to be a mom.

“It is a beautiful thing,” she said with a laugh. “I was ‘mothered’ by a mom, so I know how beautiful it is. So, yeah, we’ll see what happens. I’m keeping the faith.”

When pressed about her telling E! News earlier this week that she is finally ready to adopt a child, Latifah deflected the question with her signature sense of humor.

“I got three on the way from China, one from Southern Africa. I’m supposed to pick one up around 12:30 downtown,” she quipped. “It’s gonna be a big household.”

Come out of the closet already.

@Guestie, what does that have to do with her becoming a mother???

Such a poor choice of a headline. It doesn’t reflect the actual comment she made and comes across as racist. People magazine’s editors are the worst.

Since 37% of the children in US foster care are black, I would hope she would look for a child closer to home.

Guest…she came out already a long time ago

Nice to see if she has adopted kids with her.

She could adopt domestically instead going to abroad

What is racist about the headline?

Everyone is free to chose how they bring children into their lives. I never understand the comments telling people what they should do especially when they haven’t done so themselves.

She is planning to adopting kids? Good for her!
