How Pink’s ‘Uninhibited’ Daughter Inspired Her New Track for Alice Through the Looking Glass

When Disney approached Pink to pen a track for its upcoming Alice Through the Looking Glass, she was happy to give it a “Try.”

The Grammy winner watched an early screening of the Lewis Carroll adaptation with her daughter Willow Sage, 4½.

“I know everybody with kids says this — that their kids is their barometer of cool — but Willow tells me which songs of mine she likes and the way she does that is she just starts singing them after one listen,” Pink, 36, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“So when we watched Alice, she was like, ‘Can we watch it again?’ ”

Understandably, Willow has proved to be a muse for the project.

“She is my inspiration for everything,” says the singer. “I think of little girls like her when I’m doing something like this because I want it to be fun. I think of that spirit Willow has, where she’s totally uninhibited and wants to dance around naked, and that’s how I go into the song.”

The movie doesn’t hit theaters until May 27, so the new track won’t drop for a while, but the pop star will surely win some cool-mom points for her addition to the Disney canon.

“I have a 4½-year-old little girl, so Disney is probably at the top of my list in my life. We’ve been to Disneyland. We love Princess and the Frog. Princess Tiana is our hero: She wanted to be a chef and save up all her money and work hard to have a restaurant, so we’re into that,” says Pink.

And the mom — married to motocross star Carey Hart, 40 — is very conscious of the entertainment and media her daughter consumes.

“What’s awesome about Alice is the whole theme, from the start of the movie, is: Girls can do it, too. She’s the captain of her own ship, but it takes her femaleness to be that fierce, so that’s another great [message] for our house,” explains Pink. “I try to keep Willow as empowered as possible.”

She’s such an awesome mom, empowering her daughter early! I’m sure that Cary is an awesome dad too!!

Just Me on

I absolutely adore Pink and Carey as parents. I love that Pink isn’t the type to sugarcoat anything. When she went through her rough patch with Carey, she was open about it. She was open about her struggles with booze and she’s always empowering her fans to face their demons and be strong. It’s great that she’s doing the same for her daughter. She’s also an amazing singer and what a fantastic performer!! I’m gushing, I know, but honestly, it’s nice to have what I like to call the “Anti-Kardashian”. A person who came up rough, found her calling and uses her fame for good. Their daughter is a lucky girl.

I love this woman! It’s easy to be a sell-out for the sake of money and popularity but she’s been an honest and unapologetic (for the right reasons) artist who stands by her beliefs. And that beautiful, precious daughter! I wish the this family all the best things.
