Chrissy Teigen: I Was Doing IVF in the Middle of My SI Swim Shoot

02/18/2016 at 12:30 AM ET

She may have looked perfectly flawless in her recent Sports Illustrated Swimsuit feature, but mom-to-be Chrissy Teigen was actually undergoing a less-than-glamorous experience off-set.

“I was doing IVF during the shoot,” she told PEOPLE on Wednesday at the SI Swimsuit “Swim Beach” fan event in Miami.

“I was getting my shots and everything in Zanzibar, I had a little medical kit. It was hard because you bloat from it, and you bruise — if I hit the wrong area. That’s the kind of things we had to cover with makeup.”

Now happily pregnant and expecting a baby girl in April with husband John Legend, the supermodel says she would have considered posing while expecting, but not for her own personal use.

“John and I aren’t the kind of people to have photo of ourselves in our house, like embracing the pregnant and naked thing. But if it were for a cool magazine and beautifully done, I would do that … [SI Swim], I would have definitely done pregnant!” she says.

So excited to announce my 7th appearance in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition – I had to count that a million times before I believed it! My @si_swimsuit family, I love you! There is nothing like being a part of this brand and this issue. My shoot was in beautiful Zanzibar and shot by the incomparable @ruvenafanador, who is just as wonderful, kind, serene and lovely as everyone has ever told me. He thinks about every little aspect of a photo, every detail. HMU by @peterbutlerhair and @joannegair I LOVE you and am so lucky you allow me to be in your chairs! @mj_day and @darciebaum and @ja_neyney @hillarydrezner and @karencarpk – you are my family. I am proud to be in the issue but SO proud of all the work you guys put into this every single year. I just love you all. Jesus this is dramatic I know! And to all my fellow @si_swimsuit girls, congrats on a beautiful issue!!! I will see you this week in MIAMI!!!! I can't wait to kiss all your beautiful faces!

As to the this year’s groundbreaking SI covers, which featured three models including size-16 beauty Ashley Graham and MMA fighter Ronda Rousey, Teigen says, “I love them. I absolutely adore Ashley Graham … she is so sweet and so wonderful and just the most lively, fun, excitable personality on the planet so I just loved seeing her get a cover because she looks absolutely stunning on it.”

The Lip Sync Battle host also loved the triple-cover approach (similar to her own SI cover, which featured three women), offering, “I always wanted multiple covers. When I was on the cover, I didn’t want it to be any other picture, I loved the multiple girls, I think there’s something very fun about it.”

I like her and, I’m happy that she succeeded with the IVF but does there come a time when enough with the personal information?

One would think that a swimsuit magazine would include models wearing swimsuits

Miss Scarlett on

Does this woman keep anything to herself?

That is a gorgeous swimsuit picture!

Why is this news? Does anyone really care about how she conceived that spoiled brat? She is such a dumb woman. Vulgar and dumb.

I agree N. No swimsuits. It’s all body paint. I thought this was the “swimsuit” edition.

Val on

I agree too she didn’t wear swimsuit, it’s body paint.

Where are the swim suits?

This woman cannot stop talking about herself and her “struggles.”
