Emily Maynard Johnson’s Blog: My Biggest Fears About (and the Benefits of!) Having Another Baby

02/08/2016 at 08:05 PM ET

Please welcome our newest celebrity blogger, Emily Maynard Johnson!

After accepting a proposal from Brad Womack on The Bachelor, the engagement soon ended and Maynard Johnson went on to star as The Bachelorette, where she became engaged to Jef Holm before ultimately breaking things off.

In 2013, Maynard Johnson met Tyler Johnson through church and, in June 2014, the couple wed in a rustic ceremony in South Carolina.

Already mom to 10-year-old daughter Ricki, the couple welcomed their first child together, son Jennings Tyler, in July.

The lifestyle blogger’s new book, I Said Yes, is available March 1. (Preorder it here.)

Maynard Johnson, 30, can be found on her blog, as well as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter @EmilyMaynard.

Hi everyone!! I am so excited to be sharing my journey with baby number two here.

It’s been a whirlwind since he was born last summer.

To those moms out there, do you ever feel like you’ve been the age you are now forever and will always be in this stage of your life? I never really thought about it until my son, Jennings, was born in July. It was so hard for me to imagine what my life looked like before him because he fit in with our family so perfectly.

Now that’s not to say there weren’t nights in the first few months that I wondered if I would ever sleep, shower, or even have a conversation again. So, for all of you going through that right now, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I promise!

For those of you that don’t know, I have a 10-year-old daughter, Ricki, and a 6-month-old son, Jennings. Before Jennings was born, I worried and prayed constantly about what that transition would look like.

Would Ricki feel left out?

Would I have what it takes to be the mother to an infant again?

How would I balance both children’s very different needs?

After he was born, it was definitely an adjustment, but Jennings has brought so much joy and happiness into our house that the good far outweighs the bad. Ricki even sits outside of his room waiting for him to wake up!

Between grounding one from all her electronics and trying to get the other down for a nap, I don’t know if I’m coming or going most of the time, but I continue to pray for patience and grace!

It’s so crazy to me that just a year ago, I was already uncomfortably pregnant and counting down the days until I could sleep on my stomach again. And now, this sweet, happy baby has taken over our lives in the sweetest way possible!

I know moms out there may feel the same way about having a second child. The unknown is always scary. It helps me to know there are families out there that “do it all over again” every day.

The fear of having a second child is normal, but the rewards far exceed any fear I could ever have!

congratulations what a beautiful family!
I had a baby this summer as well (I also have a 10 year old)
I’m so glad to hear my nerves about a second child were similar to others.
It’s definitely an amazing feeling watching the older child and baby bond

Will they call him Jenny for short? Terrible name, especially for a boy.

I think sometimes the fears of another child can be greater when there is such a span between their ages and you kinda forget a lot of the details of what’s involved. I guess one could stress over having several too close together, but for different reasons.

I know DaisyMoon, some of us couldn’t be so lucky to have a name like yours? Poor us…

To Anonymous: She’s relevant enough to you if you clicked on this article and left a comment, lol. Maybe she should just be “anonymous”, then she’d really be irrelevant. You are what you perceive in others I guess….

@DaisyMoon Her son was named after her late grandfather.

Love the name Jennings! Not common first name for a boy, but unique and nice.

What a beautiful family! Emily hit the jackpot with her husband and found him in the best possible place and not on a contrived reality show. Loved her from the moment she stepped out of the limo on the Bachelor, and then when I heard her story, I was a goner. She is the most beautiful woman to have every been on that silly show, inside and out. So happy for her that she found her happily ever after…no one deserved it more.

As a mother to 6 children, the younger 3 were all 3 & under at the time of the last one’s birth, I tell you…It Can Be Done!!! You asked for tips…so here you go. Tip #1: Remember love is first & foremost above any mess. Messes can be cleaned at the earliest convenience. Lost chances to show love can never be had again. Tip #2: Keep 3 diaper bags packed at all times. Leave one in your vehicle(more than one vehicle, have one in each), keep one by the front door, keep one beside your purse. This way you are guarenteed to have what you need no matter how frazzled or forgettful you are that day. Tip #3: Keep an activity pack handy for your eldest daughter. It will help when you are so busy with both babies that you can’t get her anything out to do. Have fun, enjoy everything!!!
