Tyra Banks is a mom!

The former supermodel and beauty entrepreneur and boyfriend, Norwegian photographer Erik Asla, have welcomed a son, York Banks Asla, via gestational surrogate, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

“We are so excited for our new baby boy bundle of joy. The journey to now has not been an easy process, as I’ve shared before. But there was a beautiful bright light at the end of the tunnel for me and his father, Erik,” she tells PEOPLE in an exclusive statement.

“As I gaze into the beautiful eyes of my son, I think about all the people who struggle with fertility or carrying a child and continue to pray for them every day. My hopes and dreams are filled with well wishes that they get to feel what my little treasure, York Banks Asla, feels like in my arms.”

The new mom announced the arrival of her baby boy on Instagram, alongside a photo of a newborn hospital hat.

“The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here,” Banks, 42, writes. “He’s got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik’s mouth and chin.”

She adds, “As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world.”

Everyone deserves to be loved like this.

Banks previously opened up about her infertility struggles, revealing that she had undergone IVF procedures in hopes of conceiving.

“When I turned 40, the one thing I was not happy about is that I did not have kids,” she told PEOPLE. “When you’re like, ‘Okay, I’m just going to do it,’ then it’s not so easy as you get older.”

How wonderful for the entire family! Many wishes of health and happiness as you enter the incredible new world of parenting. Lucky little boy! I knew there was a reason Tyra kept pulling away from her many projects. Hopefully when York is a little older, she will at least launch a new version of Top Model!

Most older women having children, even though 40 is not that far away from 30, are usually more prepared and better hands on parents. I was hands on at age 28 when I had my son because I already did so many things before that point and felt ready but most women need more time than that even. I wish her nothing but happiness, wow, congratulations!!!

Wonderful stories like this about surrogacy should drown out a horrible story like Sherri Shepherd’s. THIS is what the outcome of surrogacy should be. Delighted, grateful, thrilled parents. Congratulations!

Thank you Tara for be honest about your infertility issues.most women of Advance merternal age believe that it’s going to be a piece of cake to conceive because they see the women in Hollywood having babies at an advanced age.

Ohmygawd, he is a nice looking man…like winning the gene lottery with these two. Such a special time for them!

Teniquau on

What kind of name is York?!?!?!?

WishingWell on

So happy for the beautiful couple and their child.

William Stenberg on

A white father? She better brace herself for all the venom and racial invectives that will inevitably be hurled at her.

CC on

Well how cool is that. To be a woman who wants to have a child and just can’t is heartbreaking. I am glad she was able to have her baby even if she wasn’t able to carry him herself.

Diane H on

Tyra, I love your baby’s name. I bet he is beautiful. Congratuations to all!

Mel on

Aww!

Ted A on

Another celebrity exploiting poor women and taxpayers to buy a baby. Who acres if women in America have a greater risk of dying in childbirth than women in China or even Saudi Arabia? Who cares that breeders don’t get the job unless they can get themselves onto the welfare rolls to save the baby buyers a good $25k-$35k in medical fees and make taxpayers pick up the bill for the birth and all complications resulting from the birth for life???

suks on

So- she waits until 40 to have kids and then she calls it fertility issues? You waited to long- so be thankful you have tons of money to PAY someone to carry a child for you. Fertility issues are when your young- in child bearing age and not being able to conceive! Just showing a hat is lame as well. Can’t you do better than that after waiting SO long to have a child?

chloe on

York?!?! That’s as bad as Zuma!

Denise on

What kind of name is York you ask? What kind of name is Teniquau?

KT on

Anonymous- You’re right! He does look a little like Gordon Ramsey! But better! HAHA He’ll be such a good looking baby! Congrats to all!

Gretchen on

Georgina, what on earth are you talking about?! She desperately wanted a child, so why would you think she would not have been okay with twins? Why is it that people seem to hunt for some rude ugly thing to say to such a happy announcement? That’s not “an opinion”, it’s just a mean insult……

msliftbig on

I didn’t even know she had a boyfriend! Good for them, I bet that’s a beautiful baby.

ann roerts on

It her blood baby , it was worth it . Adoption is nice , but nothing beats your own .

Zol on

York is a cute name!

Hildie on

I have a son named York (he’s 19, though). He get’s compliments on his name all the time. It’s the perfect name as far as I’m concerned; totally unusual but not made up, everyone can spell it and pronounce it. Good taste, Tyra!

Anonymous on

She quits the show is probably for her up coming baby.

MsPula on

William Stenberg I was shocked at your comment that because the fathers white she needs to brace herself, Really? I am bi-racial as are my children and NEVER was that our issues growing up. You teach your child/children to respect EVERYONE, it’s those who teaches their child/children to become bullies that’s the problem in this world. Has nothing to do with color of ones skin, its the teaches of ones parents. Bullies bully you rather you are white, black, Asian, Indian & Bi-racial. Being Bi-racial has not just started its been around since BC. Teach your child/children to love and respect EVERYONE, if not then that sin falls on You the parent.

Mary on

CHERISH AND EMBRACE every moment! May you have many memorable moments with your precious little man. God Bless

Leslie A. on

Congrats on the baby!!! I wonder if she ever had any miscarriages or anything. I feel like people who are considering abortion should think about adoption…there are so many women that can’t have children but want them so bad.
