Elton John Says His Sons with Husband David Furnish Are the ‘Greatest Thing In Our Lives’

01/18/2016 at 09:30 PM ET

Sir Elton John has a lot to celebrate in 2016!

In a recent sit-down with Ellen DeGeneres, the “Rocket Man” singer opened up about his role as a father and a husband … and really, just how wonderful life is while they’re in the world.

“If you’d had said to me 10 years ago I’d be sitting on your show married to the man I love and have two beautiful children I would have said, ‘You put acid in my drink.’ But life throws you challenges and life throws you curveballs — great curveballs — and these two children have come along at a time I never thought I’d have children,” John, 68, said. “They are the greatest thing in our lives. There’s no words to describe how much we love these boys. They’re just amazing.”

John and husband David Furnish, who recently celebrated their one-year anniversary of marriage, share two sons Zachary, 5, and Elijah, 3.

The couple have been enjoying all that comes with family life — including the fun vacations!

“It was the first time they’d been [to Disneyland] and they went on a lot of things including the tea cups which I hate!” John shared. “You see my pictures — I’m sitting there like that. And Zachary just laughing his head off. But we had a wonderful time there.”

Being a part of a musical family, John admitted that his kids do sing his own songs sometimes, but have some favorites of their own.

“I mean they love ‘Hotline Bling'” he said. “That’s their favorite song. And they love ‘Uptown Funk’ and Zachary likes ‘Kraftwerk’ which is a bit worrying.”

So Jen does that mean kids of single parents are doomed too? How do you know those kids don’t have a positive female role model in their life? The only thing that is a disgrace is your narrow mind.

Ha, Elton might be a fabulous artist and musician, but on the human level he is a total loser! He is 68 and has two toddlers. Let’s do the math! He’s been a cocain addict and alcoholic for years, partied most of his life and lived a very selfish life. Suddenly with mid 60 he felt the urge of having kids, paid a surrogate to “breed” his kids and voila…two little boys, that will more or less grow up without one of their parents, because by the time they are in high school, he’ll be dead!! They should have adopted kids that needed a good home!!

His babies are beautiful.

I hope that Elton and his man don’t fantasize about having sex with these little boys and that these little guys don’t grow up experimenting with one another.

Kids are the whole point of life, right? No.

“greatest THING”–how about “greatest blessing”. I’ve always wondered if this rash of celebrity adoptions was a matter of enhanced accessorization of their lives. Just wondering.

Dear JenisRIGHT – do you fantasize about your own children the way you are assuming Elton and his partner are? How about the rest of your hetero friends – should we be concerned about the safety of their children? Your basic awareness of human reality is appalling.

@ Caterpillar

You’re ranting about his kids being abandoned when he, either because of old age or the ravages of his former partier lifestyle, passes away (never mind the fact that they have TWO parents and one of them is young enough to be around longer) and in the next breath saying that he should have adopted instead? If he adopted babies, you’d be saying the same thing, and if he adopted struggling older children and then passed away, the kids would have felt loss twice. Yes, the boys might have been served better by having a younger father, but age has settled Elton and he is able to provide them love and stability.

@Jen

Judging by your comments and your insistence on the importance of a mother, I assume you have a mother. Funny how the “love, attention and nurturing” she provided for you did nothing to stop you from leaving homophobic comments on a post about a loving family. These boys have no “mother” figure, but I do not doubt they have some form of female influence in their lives to nurture them. They will be fine.
