Chelsea Clinton Expecting Second Child

12/21/2015 at 04:00 PM ET

Charlotte is on her own campaign trail: To be the best big sister!

Chelsea Clinton is pregnant and expecting her second child with husband Marc Mezvinsky, she announced Monday on Twitter.

“Next summer, Charlotte is going to be a big sister! Feeling very blessed & grateful this holiday season,” she tweeted along with a photo of her 15-month-old daughter reading Big Sisters Are the Best.

Shortly after her announcement, Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton took to their own Twitter accounts to congratulate their daughter on her expanding family.

“Your dad and I could not be happier for you, Marc and Charlotte. We’re so excited to meet our second grandchild!” Hillary tweeted.

Added the former President, “Christmas comes early! Hillary and I are thrilled for Chelsea, Marc and Charlotte’s growing family in 2016!”

In September, the mom-to-be said she was looking forward to having another baby.

“I think my love for Charlotte has just opened more space in my heart and my brain that I didn’t even know was there,” she told PEOPLE.

And while Clinton’s mom is busy seeking the Democratic presidential nomination for the upcoming election, the It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going! author admitted the politician — and dad Bill! — are devoted babysitters to their first grandchild.

“Watching them do all of that with Charlotte is just a lot of fun … an unexpected joy in this process,” she previously told PEOPLE.

“They are so interested in everything about her — getting to know her and being part of her life and part of her daily route — so it’s not just checking in once in a while, but checking in every day to see how she’s doing.”

But while Clinton loves watching the bond between her baby girl and the new grandparents, she’s joked about finding her own parenting style.

“Er, she definitely gives me advice,” former First Daughter Clinton said in March.

“Some of it I take. And some of it I sort of smile and say, ‘Thank you’ for. I’m sure this is a common thing with new moms with their mothers!”

Clinton, 35, and Mezvinsky, an investment banker, were married in Rhinebeck, New York, in July 2010.

Her mother would do us all a favor and drop out of the presidential race and run for 1st grandmother. Can’t stand this whole family.

Who ever guest is shame on her quote., I am sure she is a Republican,
As always they always make nasty quote if you don’t agree with them.
Can’t they just be happy for Chelse , what a wonderful gift from God, so happy for her.

Congrats to them! Some of the comments here are awful. If you don’t agree with grandma’s politics, fine, but Charlotte is a baby.

For those of you questioning the timing of the announcement, Chelsea is nearly 36 years old. Is it really suspect that she is choosing to have her children close in age?

Congratulations!

This was predicted months ago, that Chelsea would either be pregnant or have a newborn during the election next fall. Mission accomplished!

Congratulations! Altho I am not a fan of this family, I am happy that the babies will be close in age! It’s nice to have a sibling!!!

I can’t believe people are so ridiculous. The election is not until November. A pregnancy is nine months. Chelsea is 35 years old. I’d do exactly the same thing, you know have them before I’m pushing 40. And to oio99 – you are one nasty troll. You sound unhappy in your own life.

Sorry, I loathe the Clintons. All of them. I don’t care if Chelsea has 20 though, as long as her horrid mother does not become POTUS. This family can go jump in the lake as far as I care.

Awwww….Hillary will seem like less of a miserable liar now to the voters.

Wishing Chelsea and Mark a healthy baby. Charlotte will love being a big sister and now Hillary and Bill can babysit two previous grandchildren.
My daughter is Chelsea’s age and going through a divorce but found her Mr. Right. I hope for the same joy in the near future.
I cannot believe what some people wrote! No matter what your political affiliation how can you stoop to calling people ugly or worse things.
A baby is a blessing and you should not bring your right wing agenda into this.
The world is filled with hate and you would think this should be a time of rejoicing. I have nothing else to say. You have touché with hate. I prefer peace and love.

Congrats to them, a baby is always happy news, but I still laugh when I remember that she stood outside the hospital with her family for a photo opp like she’s Kate Middleton or someone.

What a sweet picture! I love Charlotte’s cute little outfit.

2years apart for siblings is pretty standard these days. I would think that since the family is fairly typical, why would her daughter’s pregnancy have anything to do with Hilary’s electability. People love to post venomous comments if someone disagrees with them politically. Pregnancy is not political. This goes for members of all parties. Stay out of candidates chikdren’ lives.

Anonymous, are you seriously going to pretend that Democrats never make ugly comments about “Repubtards”, “stupid Republicans”, and all sorts of things that are rude and hateful? Some people like the Clintons, some don’t, from both parties. Some people love Chelsea, whether they like her parents or not, some people think Chelsea’s family is adorable, and some don’t. I have to say, I don’t think there is anyone who should be making rude comments about someone having a new baby, especially when they are actually very happy to be welcoming a new little one! Congrats to Chelsea and her family, and best wishes for a safe and healthy pregnancy, from one of those republicans who isn’t a jerk , isn’t complaining about her mother, not dragging up politics that aren’t applicable here, nor complaining about whether Chelsea should be the next Mrs. America. I don’t agree with everything she says, but I think she has turned out well, she has weathered storms in life that would be beyond most children’s ability to deal with, and she managed to deal with it in front of the whole world, without setting fire to her home, without being an 11th grade dropout, and without treating others with the disrespect she was often treated with. Good on you, Chelsea!
