Rachel Bilson Says Daughter Briar Is More Like Belle from Beauty and the Beast
“She’s very busy,” Bilson told PEOPLE at No Kid Hungry‘s Dinner to End Childhood Hunger at The Four Seasons in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
When asked if her baby girl is active, she doesn’t hesitate to answer. “Literally, she might be an Olympic gymnast next month. She’s crazy,” jokes Bilson of Briar, who celebrates her first birthday on Oct. 29.
When Briar isn’t reveling in her active lifestyle, she enjoys more scholarly pursuits, like reading. “She is very well-read,” says Bilson. “She likes all books. I’m telling you, she’s like Belle from Beauty and the Beast.”
Aside from Briar’s insatiable desire to read and her on-the-go lifestyle, there’s one more thing that Bilson admires about her first child: her fashion sense. When asked who her living style icon is, Bilson giggles before answering, “My daughter.”
While Bilson and Briar are able to have fun reading and dressing up together, the actress is very aware that not all children have the privileges she’s able to give to her daughter. Bilson was honored at the event as a No Kid Hungry Hero for her support in helping to ensure that every child in the United States has access to healthy food.
“You take on this mother role to all children, but … you don’t think that one out of five children are hungry and you don’t think about it because you don’t really think it’s an issue,” she explains.
“Organizations like this — that are bringing programs to schools and are doing things to help — are so important to get attention because it is fixable.”
“It’s so important to have a full tummy,” she continued in her acceptance speech. “If I’m hungry, I’m very cranky, and I do not listen, learn, talk, walk. [It’s important] for children to have a full tummy, [so] they are able to learn and dream big. They’re going to shape our country and our world.”
