A little Legend is on the way.

Musician John Legend and his wife, model Chrissy Teigen, are expecting their first child, they announced on Instagram Monday.

“John and I are so happy to announce that we are pregnant,” she wrote.

“As many of you know, we’ve been trying to have a baby for a while now. It hasn’t been easy, but we kept trying because we can’t wait to bring our first child into the world and grow our family.”

She adds, “We’re so excited that it’s finally happening. Thank you for all your love and well wishes. I look forward to all the belly touching! Xx”

The news comes weeks after Teigen, 29, got candid about the couple’s struggle to conceive.

“John and I were having trouble,” she said during an emotional interview on her new daytime talk show, FABlife.

“We would have had kids five, six years ago if it had happened. But, my gosh, it’s been a process.”

“I wanted to talk about it for so long,” she recently said. “It didn’t feel right to ever tweet, ‘Ugh, doing my IVF shots again.’ It just sounded silly. It definitely was not planned in that episode at all.”

When it came to inquiries about when they’d start a family, Teigen said she understood the impulse to ask, but encouraged people to think twice when broaching the question.

“It’s a sweet question. It comes from a good place, but sometimes you never know what the person [is going through],” she says. “What you really want to say [is], ‘I’m trying and I can’t.’ ”

As she prepares for motherhood, Teigen already has a few firm rules she plans to follow — at least when it comes to childcare.

“No hot nannies, drivers or maids,” she recently said. “It’s an ongoing joke in my house. I do want kids one day, so it’s something that I have to think about.”

As for how many babies will make up their brood? Teigen told PEOPLE she sees a big family in her future.

“I picture us with three or four,” she said in May. “John and I go hard in everything we do. And we like a bit of chaos.”

Following their engagement in 2011, the “All of Me” singer, 36, and Teigen tied the knot during a ceremony in Lake Como, Italy, in 2013. The parents-to-be just celebrated their second wedding anniversary on Sept. 14.

I am so happy for them, especially considering all of the scrutiny and struggle they had to go through. It’s so difficult, I know from experience. And once it finally happens, it is the biggest blessing ever.

Awe, congrats to them!! Their baby will be gorgeous:) I really like her, she seems genuine and down to earth, and he seems to adore her, happy for them and hope it’s all smooth sailing through the pregnancy!

She acted like such a drunk at that awards show she hosted.

We know what the baby’s face will look like, because its parents are nearly twins! And what will the surname be? Stephens, right? Or Teigen-Stephens? Oh dear. Maybe “Teigens.” that would be better.

I wouldn’t have told, if I were she, until I passed 18-20 weeks. For my own pregnancy, I told no one until I hit 28 weeks.

You are pregnant. Your husband is not.

Emily on

Yes, MissObvious, she is pregnant. But they are BOTH, in fact, expecting a baby.

So happy for you guys! Wishing you every happiness as you go through the pregnancy and birth of your first child! CONGRATULATIONS

Two self absorbed creeps having another self absorbed creep. Fantastic.

They’re bff with West losers.

Wow, thindle! Amazed you were able to hide it so long. We told our family at 9 weeks, and friends at 13. It was hard to keep the secret. I’m sure Chrissy waited the requisite 12 weeks or more to share the news, precisely because of her struggles. Congrats to them!

Personally, I don’t like either one of them. However, I am happy for them, because it has been well known that they have struggled. I hate that for anybody who wants to give a child love.

mom on

Let them enjoy their child. They do not need media to help them create the most important part of their lives.

MMM on

Yay. Happy for them. Congrats!!!

Ugh. There’s no edit feature on here? I meant she seems like a sweet girl, and I said congrats to Chrissy and John, not Cgrist! LOLOL.

Wow just in time to help image and ratings!! So Tamera are you going to take a cheap shot at her for announcing on social media?? Chrissy has a big mouth and I hope show is cancelled! ! John next wifey use the Ivy League head to choose…

choyce2020 on

Hate to “break” this to you Chrissy but nannies, maids, drivers male or female don’t have to be “good-looking” for a partner to stray…remember the Arnold Schwarzenegger Affair..& he was married to a lovely Kennedy. ..the only thing about “life” is there are no guarantees….just have to hope & pray your partner is as committed as you are to your relationship. Best of everything w/your new BABY, I’m certain it will be FABULOUS!!!

Casey on

Aww, that’s sweet news. They look so happy in that Instagram photo.

Jem on

So happy for them! Infertility is more common than people realize.

choyce2020 on

Regardless, of the attractiveness of your “assistants/helpers” will not stop a “cheating” partner from straying….remember the horrific Arnold Schwarzenegger affair…he had two women pregnant at the same time, one of them his wife, the other a unattractive housemaid who bore him a son. Wishing you much better luck in love & w/your new baby & hubby!!!

It’s not a sweet question. It’s nosy and rude.

Emily- Good one! I never get why people get so offended by others saying “we’re pregnant”. It’s just an expression (a very sweet one, IMO!), for goodness sake!

Jenn- Calling an unborn baby names. Classy!

Anyway, congrats to them!

heavy duty on

OMG! You mean Chrissy is going to have to start thinking of someone other than herself?? Then we’ll have to hear forever how she got her body back after baby. Ugh!

Awwwwwwwwww this is one couple I like, she is beautiful and he is such a pleasant and decent man I like his disposition……….. I don’t understand why they are friends with pimp K. West and his whore

Sending best wishes, prayerful support & only good things to one of Ohio’s favorite son’s & his fabulous firecracker of a wife. Couldn’t be more proud of the person John Legend is & the couple he & Chrissy make. They put great energy out into the world.

heavy duty- Considering how long she’s been wanting and trying to have a child, I doubt she’s going to care about rushing to get her body back!

Alia on

Ok, so now we have to add another thing to the PC list – don’t ask anyone about having babies? Good grief. Some people have genuine interest that comes out of a caring place – not simply to be “nosy.” She herself says, “we plan on having a big family, 3 or 4 kids.” John and I love chaos, etc.. So now suddenly she’s very cool with people asking her about future babies and future plans!! Sorry, but people are not mind-readers. We can’t know what is going on in private unless you share it. Asking a married couple about future plans is NOT unusual, nor is it rude, nor is it “nosy,” nor is it insensitive. And should there be fertility problems at the time any general future-plan question is asked, you can just say “we’ll see what happens” or ” it’s in God’s hands.” Not that complicated. People LOVE to over-share and LOVE when people ask them about their families or plans for their family when everything is going good, but then suddenly expect others’ to become mind-readers when things are not going well and stop asking them. Can’t have both ways.

Congratulation. Wishing you an easy and happy pregnancy.

Diane on

Why have kids when you’re just going to pawn them off on nannies????? I hope she miscarries and never gets pregnant again.

Chouchou on

Why people would say “we are pregnant” . So ridiculous

facelessbandit on

1. People complaining about not being able to ask when someone is having kids, it’s basically asking them how their sex life and organs are working. None of your damn business.
2. We are pregnant, we are expecting. Same thing. They are doing it together so the wording is fine.
3. Why should they wait longer to announce? I’m 14wk with multiples. Guess what? I’m showing and can’t really hide it anymore! Also, I’m excited cause after a 2 yr battle we are finally having children! Why should I keep it secret? If something happens maybe at this point I’ll need support and understanding.

A legend in the making! 😉 Sorry, I could not resist! My nephews were conceived through IVF. My sister had the shots she described in this article. Very risky and very painful. It took 2 rounds for it to work. I have never seen my sister so stressed. I’m glad people are more willing to talk about infertility issues nowadays and miscarriages. Glad Mark Zuckerberg decided to start a public dialogue about it, too. Too many couples suffer in silence. Here’s praying for a healthy baby.

I remember Connor Kenway said something that’s very wise – “You mustn’t force such things. Nature will grant you a young one when the time is right.” Mother Nature is finally smiling upon them… Congrats to masters John Legend and Chrissy Teigen!
May he guide the young one’s way as he/she descends from the heavens to start his/her journey. Good luck to you three! (wink!)

facelessbandit- My thoughts exactly! Most people DO mean well when they ask those kinds of questions, but the truth is that they are intrusive and often hurtful. My parents, for example, often got asked during their fertility struggle when they were going to “start a family”….which made my mother’s blood boil. As she put it, those people were basically insinuating (purposefully or not!) that she and my father weren’t a family and would never be one if they didn’t succeed in having kids…something that just wasn’t true.

Bottomline- If someone is a close friend and you know they won’t mind the question, then go ahead and ask about kids (but only once! After that, leave the decision about further discussion on that topic up to them!). Otherwise, mind your own beeswax!

Congratulations! I wonder if they will expose their little one to another language. This new company, Smart Coos, , states that it let’s parents teach kids at least two languages from birth. Of course, John and Chrissy can afford a multilingual nanny but it’s good that there’s a company that provides that support for them and let’s other parents teach their children a second language from day one if they cannot afford a full time nanny.
