Kristin Cavallari Is Naming Her Daughter After a Dog (No, Really!)

Kristin Cavallari, who’s expecting her third child with husband Jay Cutler, says the couple already have a name picked out for their daughter — and it comes from an interesting source.

“We picked out this baby girl’s name when I was pregnant with our first,” the star tells Cricket’s Circle. “I met a woman and her dog, and I loved her dog’s name. Funny enough, it was the name she had picked out if she had a girl, but she had boys, so she used it for her dog instead.”

Cavallari and Cutler, who share two sonsJaxon Wyatt, 16 months, and Camden Jack, 3, are now planning to use the moniker when they welcome their little girl in November.

The 28 year old — whose new book, Balancing in Heels, will be released in March — covered a variety of topics in the wide-ranging interview, including how she tries to find an ever-elusive work-life balance.

“Once I had kids, I made a conscious decision to make them my top priority,” Cavallari explains. “I want to take them to school, to mommy-and-me music class — I want to be there.”

She continues, “This means I can’t take on as many business endeavors, which has actually helped my career. I have to love and wholeheartedly believe in anything I do, which is a really great feeling.”

The former Laguna Beach star and Cutler, who is a quarterback for the Chicago Bears, “swap roles” depending on his football schedule. Cavallari stays home during the NFL season, and then, when Cutler’s off, he cares for their children while she travels and focuses on work.

“It’s just worked out this way timing-wise, which has been amazing,” she explains.

Cavallari also reveals the best mommy advice she’s ever gotten was from her own mother: Kids do as you do, not as you say.

“I really try hard to set a good example and practice what I preach, which can be hard,” she shares. “She also swears that I’m going to miss the hard days, so I try to find the comedy in tough moments. My trick for keeping your cool is to act like someone’s watching you and evaluating you as a parent.”

Although challenging, those “hard days” are also sometimes unforgettable. Cavallari admits one of her greatest mom fails came during a flight with her firstborn — without any extra help or a spare set of clothes.

“Camden had always been a rockstar flier. I was flying with him solo to L.A. one time while he was teething, and he projectile vomited everywhere,” she recalls.

“Of course, I didn’t have a change of clothes for him or me, so we sat in our puke clothes for HOURS. It was awful.”

I like the comment “she flew with her firstborn without any extra help”… yeah a lot of single parents, and non-single parents, travel alone with a child- without extra help. It’s really not a sign of being a martyr that you travelled alone with your one child. It’s what most of us call reality

For some reason, i still can’t see her as anything other than the girl she was on Laguna beach, which irritates me. Because she was so young then, and basically a teenager, who made mistakes. She’s obviously changed since then (for the better,) and yet… I just still think she’s that same girl like she’s been permanently branded or something.

Ps, the first name i thought of when i read the title of this article was oh my gosh, she’s going to name her daughter Lassie LOL 🙂

Coco on

I like her better now then when she was on Laguna Beach/The Hills. She seems a bit more grounded as she got older and became a mother. Based on what she named her two older children, I doubt she would name her daughter anything outrageous.

My guess is Daisy or Poppy.

So…..Sadie, Maggie, Bella, Trixie, Lucy

How wonderful to be named after a dog……. (but it’s probably going to be better than the sons’ name. They are just terrible and trashy.)

How about “Sack”? Named for her husband.

CareBear on

This made me smile as we have two boys and thought we were done, so we got our dog and named her Remy, which is a name that we had really liked for a girl. Lo and behold I ended up getting pregnant and having a daughter a few years later. Needless to say, she is not named Remy. 😉

Don’t do the article if you are not going to tell us the name.

remy is a boy’s name

Well darn, now I’m going to have to change my dogs name apparently. 😉 I (obviously) prefer Remy as a girls name. I don’t think it’s illegal or anything.

Who traves with a baby without a change of clothes?? Oh right–perfect Hollywood types. Dumb!

@Anonymous I like your guesses! I’m going to agree and add Princess, Pepper and Honey to the list of guesses.

Librababe on

It’s probably Bella or Ella. Or Lola.

Volly on

Lucy is a nice name.

Bindi Iriwn wa named after a dog and a croc, so its not that original. My dad wanted to name me after a dog he had in his youth, thankfully my mom rejected that tho. My dog has a name I would have given a second daugher. SO many dogs have human lke names that its hard for a person to say that they didn’t get a name from a dog.

“We named the DOG Indiana.”
“I have a lot of fond memories of that dog.”

Yup my friend dog’s name is Neo, it’s a cute name.

I work at an animal hospital and canine facility and you wouldn’t believe how often this happens. Older couples come in with dogs named Isabella and Vivian and Theodore, and adorable stories of how they would have named their son or daughter that. I know you’re all thinking Lassie and Lucky, but I’m sure it’s a beautiful name that she chose.

Whoa, stop the press!!! She flew alone with a child without extra help. Isn’t there some kind of award we can giver her? And every other parent on the planet?

Who doesn’t know enough to take a change of clothes on a plane for a baby? That said, it’s true, I miss those hectic, imperfect days with my babies.

Not a fan of hers.

Name her Pepper!

My first thought is “what idiot would go ANYWHERE with a baby without a change of clothes “. I never went to the market without a full diaper bag including at least one complete change of clothes…Usually two…..I don’t know who this gal is….but she doesn’t seem real smart…JMHO

I am absolutely DISGUSTED that this so-called “modern woman” has already felt it necessary to confine her fetus to a gender. People are not born into their gender, they choose it upon birth. Who is she to say that the fetus is female, or any gender at that? And for the record, it IS a fetus. It is not her “daughter” until after she leaves the hospital, as it is not human until then. Who knows? She may even abort the fetus between now and her due date, as that is HER CHOICE. #righttochoose #womensreprorights #standwithpp #nongenderconform #noncis

First how do you travel and not have a diaper bag with extra clothes and second she takes them everywhere but to the dr foe vaccines!

I can’t stand her. Why is she famous?

Ava on

No idea why she’s still famous. She is so whiny. Her voice grates on my nerves. What does she do for charity? She is just into herself.

Now just vaccinate your kids and everything will be fine, Kristin. Bonus: you don’t have to worry about them losing brain cells, thanks to the fantastic genes you share with your stupid husband.

Jennifer on

Danielle, you must be confused! If your born with a pecker and balls your a boy! If your born with a vagina then your a girl! Did you not have science at your school?

cg on

You didn’t even tell us the name! What’s the point?

Kat on

Danielle, I’d tell you to stop being a troll, but I’m fairly sure that defines your entire existence.

Anonymous on

Probably not the best idea to publicly state that she is being named after a dog. I know a lot of people name dogs names that don’t automatically strike you as a dog name so it probably wouldn’t have even been guessed had she not announced it.

jessiemaystorm on

It’s not exactly naming the baby after the dog, like “in honour” of it or anything, it’s just a name she loves that she happened to hear used on a dog. Plenty of dogs have totally normal ‘human’ names.

@jennifer, you beat me to the punch!!!! LOL
