Ryan Reynolds Says James Is Saying ‘Mama’ – and Ignoring Him Because He Can’t Nurse

Blake Lively‘s 7½-month-old daughter James is officially a mama’s girl. And dad Ryan Reynolds seems completely okay with that — sort of.

“[It’s] all about mom. I am dead to her,” Reynolds joked on Conan Tuesday. “That’s her first words, ironically. ‘You’re dead to me.’ ”

In truth, Reynolds, 38, said James seems to prefer mom for one simple reason: She’s the food source.

“Right now she’s starting to say ‘mama,'” he said. “There’s an unfair advantage there. It turns out that breasts are actually a life support system and the child seems to gravitate towards the breasts. I’m just the breastless a–hole wandering around the room and getting in her sight-line every once in a while.”

(Lively seemingly agrees with this sentiment, stating earlier this year that breastfeeding is akin to a “full-time job.”)

Nursing aside, the Deadpool star praised his bride for being one tough (and quick-witted!) chick in the delivery room.

“My wife is the real, I mean she is a mercenary,” Reynolds said. “At one point in the middle of the delivery, the doctor’s cell phone went off and she said, ‘Oh, no. Go ahead, take a personal call. Feel free.’ She was cracking jokes in the delivery room. She may have been on drugs, but I don’t ask personal questions.”

Big thanks to @teamcoco for the totally NSFW massage this evening. I should have worn my white pants. #deadpool

Reynolds admitted he was slightly less composed as his daughter entered the world.

“I was there for the conception of the child, so I thought the least I could do is be there in the delivery room,” he joked. “I’m not going to lie to you. I saw things. But amazing.”

He said he tried to help, but the assistance he offered seemed, well, lacking.

“I was a terrible coach,” he admitted. “There was a lot of clapping. I went for a couple of high fives, which she did not return.”

I bet their baby girl is beautiful. Wish they would share one pic for fans. As a grandmother of 5 grandsons , ages 3 months to 7 yrs, I love to see baby girl pics.

Ami on

Woah 5 grandsons!! Making me sweat just thinking of it.
Bet they’re adorable though.

Am sorry i like this two but why do they think there so much better then everyone else. Not even the royals act that way with there kids!!!

kb on

We want to see a pic if you don’t mind. But I understand the privacy concerns. Bet she’s beautiful.

DaisyMoon on

They took so long just to reveal her silly name, so all of you wishing for a photo…don’t hold your breath.

Bem on

Has she ever heard of a pump or a bottle?

Jessica on

Ben, why? What does it matter?

Pam on

@Jessica maybe Bem was saying that because that way he can feed his daughter milk.

Jamie on

@Bem not every baby will take a bottle. I would have loved giving my husband a few feedings each day and had a break, but my baby wouldn’t take it. It didn’t matter the type of bottle, even the ones that mimic breast feeding my baby just wouldn’t take it.

Ridiculous. How is this kid any more special than anyone else’s? I give this relationship another 2 years at best.

Those are some very funny and sweet comments about his wife and the baby. I like him.

Bem- She’s talked about pumping before, so obviously she has heard of both. And I’ll bet Ryan DOES bottle-feed her (James, I mean, not Blake!) sometimes. He just likes to joke around!🙂

Anyway, I find him hilarious, and I fail to see how he’s saying his kid is better than anyone else’s. All I saw was a man who clearly adores his wife and daughter and would go to the ends of the Earth for them!🙂

BTW, I don’t understand why people give them such a hard time about keeping their daughter away from the public eye. Plenty of other celebrities do that…and they don’t get nearly the criticism that this couple gets (one example would be Dax Shephard and Kristen Bell. People seem to think it’s great that they don’t share pictures of their daughters!)!

And for what it’s worth, I hope they continue to keep their daughter’s photos away from the media. They may have asked for this life, after all, but baby James sure didn’t!

Some of these comments are hysterical. Newsflash – lots of people think their baby is special. And why should they share baby pictures with strangers, who will then accuse them of over sharing or bragging or having an ugly baby etc. truth is, they can’t win, so they should just do what they want.

K on

Say what you will about this couple, but I think they are hilarious and I love their take on each other and parenting.

Couldn’t help but laugh at his quick wit. Most celebrity baby stories are so boring. At least he can be funny.
