Anna Faris Was ‘So Scared’ When She Went into Labor 9 Weeks Early
But in August 2012, nine weeks ahead of her due date, the actress suddenly — and very unexpectedly — went into labor.
“My water broke in the middle of the night at seven months,” Faris, 38, says in Redbook magazine’s March issue. “We rushed to the hospital and they were able to halt active labor with magnesium.”
That night, Faris’s pregnancy plans changed: She was put on bed rest for four weeks in an attempt to delay her delivery.
“But on the seventh day, I went into labor again,” the Mom star recalls. “I was in denial. For hours I was like, ‘I’m just having indigestion.'”
Adds Faris, “Chris and I were so scared, but then Jack came out and, even though he was so tiny, he looked so good to us.”
Born prematurely, the couple’s son was sent to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where he remained before being discharged one month later. And although those first few weeks were emotionally challenging, the new parents came out of it stronger than ever.
“It’s one of those things that drives you apart or makes you closer,” Faris explains. “I think that being a father is very meaningful and rewarding to Chris. He’s a great dad. He’s a little more serious than he was before. It forces your hand — you really have to become an adult.”
But that doesn’t mean Faris doesn’t occasionally get frustrated with her husband, whom she wed in 2009. When Pratt lost 65 lbs. for a role, the actress jokes her bare cupboards were a point of contention.
“I just remember being grumpy because there was no food in the house,” she says. “I love to cook really fattening things like steak and pasta and potatoes. I bake banana bread. But it’s okay, I love Chris ripped and I love him a little rounder, too.”
