The soundtrack of Nick Lachey‘s life just got even sweeter.

The singer welcomed his second child with wife Vanessa on Monday, Jan. 5, the new mama announced on her website.

Daughter Brooklyn Elisabeth Lachey — who was born at 5:17 p.m., weighing 7 lbs., 15 oz. and measuring 21 inches long — joins big brother Camden John, 2.

“I have been dreaming of this moment for as long as I can remember, the day I was going to meet my little girl. A friend recently told me how magical today was going to be because it’s the day I would meet my best friend,” Vanessa writes.

“I can’t even begin to tell you how it felt to hold her in my arms for the very first time. Mommy, Daddy and big brother Cam love you so much already, Brooklyn!”

It’s been a busy time for the growing family since their July announcement that they were expecting a baby girl.

Despite trying to keep up with an active toddler throughout her pregnancy, Vanessa, who showed off her bump on a beach in September, still managed to make it all look “effortless,” according to Nick, 41.

However, the mom-to-be told American Baby in November that her approach to parenthood was simple. “Worrying is a waste of time … Every mother out there knows what she’s doing whether she believes it yet or not,” said Vanessa, 34.

But it was The Sing-Off host who wondered how his future as a father-of-two would work out. “I can’t imagine loving a child more than I love my son, so I guess it’s just gonna be a different kind of love,” Nick, who was on hand for Vanessa’s baby shower, told PEOPLE.

Days before Brooklyn’s arrival, the Lacheys celebrated the holidays with a sweet snapshot of mother and son sharing a smooch while dad Nick embraced his wife’s baby belly.

Sons can be your best friends too. Just saying. I’m sure she’s a beautiful baby but people really have to quit assuming having girls is so much different or more wonderful than boys.

Awe…… a baby girl. How sweet. Good luck Nick. You said you were scared to have a daughter. She’s going to be so in love with her Daddy, as most little girls are. You are going to have a blast. Enjoy! Congratulations!

L on

I’m sure she’s just as beautiful as their little boy, congrats!

kelli on

Congrats! Beautiful name and I bet she’ll be beautiful. Their son is just adorable.

molly on

Congrats, but seriously, Camden and Brooklyn?? What’s next, Trenton?

I have a niece named Brooklyn! Love the name. Congratulations! Please show pictures soon.

Girls are a special blessing!

I love the name!

Love the name! Brooklyn for a girl and Elizabeth as a classic. Great combination!

Every man wants a son. I know he has one but it’s the truth!

maryhelenc on

Congrats to them! Camden is adorable & I’m sure Brooklyn will be gorgeous as well! Love the name!

Truthfinder on

Beautiful name and normal name to boot. This child already has a leg up among other odd named children in Hollywood. Not meaning there is anything wrong with the children but the names that many celebrities give their children are odd at best. The children themselves are always a blessing! Congrats to the Mr. and Mrs. and baby Camden.

genibre2013 on

These stupid Hollywood names ::shakes head:: I just can’t.

Isabel on

Congratulations! I’m sure she’s just as beautiful as her big brother. Not a fan of two place names, though.

The double standard really annoys me. It’s not OK for a mom to say she’s disappointed in her 2nd, 3rd or 4th baby boy – but it’s OK to gush something like: “I have been dreaming of this moment for as long as I can remember, the day I was going to meet my little girl.” This woman has a son already – why wasn’t she dreaming about the day she met him for as long as she could remember?

Tracy on

Love the name and the fact that both kids have city names! Glad they got the son that he wanted and the daughter that she wanted. Now if they ever have anymore no pressure!

🙂 Thats New York and New Jersey! It’s adorable- Camber, NJ & Brooklyn, NY They’re kids represent the East COast

Amazing how critical people are– she loves her son and was excited for a daughter, it does not mean she was less excited when Camden was born. I have 2 daughters and a son, I was really excited when my third was a boy- not because I love my girls less, or would love a third girl less, but because I always wanted to have a boy and a girl.

Instead of criticizing, be thankful a healthy baby was born into a family where she was be incredibly loved and supported

Aw bet she’s as gorgeous as her brother! What lovely family!

Nick Lachey has always seemed like such a nice, down-to-earth guy, and Vanessa seems so sweet. I’m genuinely happy that they found each other and are so happy together. Their children are beautiful, and I would bet they have a very happy home.

I’m also fairly confident that Jessica Simpson will probably regret losing Nick for the rest of her life. She definitely let a good one slip away.

Wellllll on

How original.

Arabrabbra on

Im really happy that both Jessica and him moved on to mature, healthy relationships. Congrats!

I LOVE the name . I am sure she is adorable. Congrats.

Ms. Lachey says that she doesn’t need parenting advice, so this one is free:

A daughter (or a son, for that matter) doesn’t need a mother to be a best friend. They need a parent.

Janie on

Congrats to Nick and Vanessa on their new daughter Brooklyn Elisabeth! Beautiful name!

Nick definitely traded up, congratulations!!!

I just love this couple. Congratulations to them both and to little Camden. Loving the name also. I wish I could smack some of the people on this site for their comments, you read way too much into things and are just so negative and mean

Nick and Vanessa Lachey on the birth of your little girl!👍😊

And then she’ll be a teenager – ugh! lol

Congrats! I like the names but all I can think is: Camden, NJ and Brooklyn, NY.

onthetable2 on

That’s my daughters name…spelled the sane way too. My son has a city name (Phoenix) but we didn’t take it from the city, just the story of the bird. Love it!!!

Vanessa might actually mean a “best friend” when she grows up. Like she she is with her own Mother. Ease up people.

valeskas on

Happy for this little family.

lala on

@Lola … I don’t believe Vanessa has any relationship with her mother. Don’t quote me, but I don’t believe Vanessa even loves her birth mother.

As for those bashing the idea of a parent being a friend. I feel sorry for you that your parents weren’t capable of being your friend. My mother was and still is my best friend, as well as my mother. She was harsh, stern and relatable. Maybe that’s why I went to her for ALL my questions, why I was always honest with her, why I never did drugs or had sex at the age of 12.

Parents can be friends with their children while still being parents. Maybe if more people were, they’d talk to their children more instead of sweeping uncomfortable conversations under the rug and just hoping their kids will do right and do good.

/random … this new little girl has a cool birthday 1.5.15

Amanda on

Some of you need to relax a little. Many women are best friends with their mothers, it does not mean she will not be a parent to her. It doesn’t mean she wasn’t thrilled to have a son. It just means she is excited about having a daughter and dreaming of having a wonderful relationship with her.

I was equally ecstatic when I welcomed my daughters and my sons…for different reasons but just as exciting and special. Being overjoyed at the birth of my first son didn’t mean I enjoyed my daughters any less and being overjoyed when I found out my first was a girl didn’t mean I would have been disappointed had she been a boy.

sandee on

daughter as best friend. Perhaps. we’ll see. I tripped over the L’s in “KLYN LACHEY” when I said the two names together. But they can call her Brook.

they named her for David Beckham’s son, how sweet! or for Tony Macelli’s home burg….

Uh...DUH! on

Yes Molly, you’re absolutely correct. How DARE they not give their kids names that YOU approve of.

grammadiamond on

Congratulations to the Lachey family!! Very happy for them! And thank GOD they have given their children NORMAL names, and not the STUPID ones, that celebs USUALLY give their children…WHEW!!

ELC on

Congrats for the baby, although, I’m not fond of her name. Come on folks…name your child after a town….please!

As for Brooklyn’s parents….those two are beyond annoying. She acts like she’s the only one whose ever had a daughter and he always acts like an idiot.

paisley on

I’m grateful for my daughter. We were so glad for a girl that we quit while we were ahead. Raising a boy held no appeal.

Tina on

Awesome! Congrats to all in your family! I was actually best friends with my father more so than my mother, I always felt like it was a competition with my mother. Where there should never be with a arent for any reason. Good luck it will be an amazing journey in your liife! Yes, boys are your best friends too! My Ex-Husband was my best friend for 36 yrs, before he was murdered 16 mos. ago by his neighbor who stabbed him, and I miss him everyday. Many more blessings to you Lachey’s! A wonderful new beggining to a New Year! 🙂

jayne on

i highly doubt jessica cares about nick and his kids. lol. she has two of her own and is very happy with her new husband. get a life.

I hate people like her! Having sons is awesome too Vanessa! They grow up and still have strong bonds with their moms! I have 3 beautiful sons, two of whom are 11 month old identical twins and I wouldn’t change that for the world. My sister has 3 daughters. It was meant to be for me. I feel for Camden!

Missy on

Leave it up to one idiot to bring Jessica into this. I am quite sure “M” that Jessica is not as obsessed as YOU seem to be with their break up considering she has moved on with children and a relationship of her own. Time for you to take some x-lax and let that go 😉

Guest on

I feel sorry for you women out there who aren’t friends with your moms. I wouldn’t really call my mom my “friend” when I was growing up. I’ve always been close with her but she was very much a mother. Now that I’m an adult, she is my absolute best friend. She is still very much my mom but our relationship has matured to a different level. I can go to her about anything that might be going on in my professional or personal life, she knows everything about me, and is the most wonderful support system. I wouldn’t trade our relationship for anything.

Ala Lemon on

I’m not usually a fan of place names, but I like the sound of Brooklyn Elisabeth. Congratulations to the family

Not a fan of two city names but congratulations!! They seem like such a nice family. Neat birthday numbers, all 1’s, 5’s, 7’s, and 2’s

Congrats Lacheys

Jenn on

Annoying! Happy for a healthy baby, but why so much focus on girl?

Sara on

Boys rule!!!!!!! Girls drool!!!!! Sorry, Camden. Sounds like Mommy never wanted a boy. She just wants a precious girl to be her best friend.

Mel on

Seems like everyone wants that little girl. As a new mom to a beautiful baby boy myself. I just thank god I had a healthy child and I can’t wait to get messy with my son. I’m excited for my journey and I wish everyone would stop putting out this dumb competition between boys and girls. Healthy baby is all that matters. And that’s all anyone can ask for. Be greatful that you have a healthy baby to kiss goodnight not everyone is so lucky. Congrats to the Lachey family 🙂

JacquelineCote on

I am so happy for them!! They are creating the family they have always wanted. Such a beautiful family!!

Denise on

Sons stick around until they get married, daughters stay close to home (in most cases). God Bless…can’t wait to see the baby pic!

guest on

It’s a child, not a dog for heaven’s sake. Congrats nontheless.

K.Davis on

@ Sara, you are a total moron. You do realize that by insulting girls, you’re also insulting some thing you once were, right? Shame on you for taking your bitterness about having a boy out on girls. Boys grow up to be perverts once they get to high school. I have never met a teenage boy that wasn’t constantly making sick, sexualized comments about the girls around him. If you want to have a potential rapist in your home, then fine! Go ahead and keep your disgusting boys. F you, bitch.

Ashley on

Congratulation Vanessa and Nick and big brother Camden. Beautiful name, Brooklyn Elisabeth.

skigirl25 on

Congrats!!! So happy for them!!!

Anonymous on

Congrats to them! I love the name, and I don’t get why everyone’s jumping on Vanessa for being happy about having a girl. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t love Camden or wasn’t just as thrilled when he was born. It just means she’s happy that now she has a little girl as well. 🙂

Bella on

LOVE the name! (Comments below, jeez people are opinionated.)

Cute little family, wish them the best!

Anonymous on

I truly hope that this family stay’s together and hae a life filled with fun, adventure and love… is very clear how much Vanessa is in love with Nick, and no doubt that Nick loves Vanessa. HOWEVER, if I did not know better I would say that Nick deep down inside is still in love with Jessica….. I hope iam wrong…..because these two make such an amazing couple!

Lawanda Thompson on

He is afraid because he knows how he’s treated women in his lifetime. That’s what ppl have to remember.

You just can’t go around treating ppl any ol’ kind of way! It will come back and who wants to think about how it would feel if your child is treated badly? Very badly in alot of cases.

Uni on

I’m sure everyone wants to see glimpse of the face of their new baby why can’t they show her face? Many other celebrities did share their newborns’ faces through the media before.

Anonymous on

Lawanda- What exactly has he done to women that’s so bad (real, confirmed examples only, please. How he acted on an almost certainly scripted “reality” show doesn’t count!)?

PoshieTurtle on

Congrats to Vanessa and Nick!

About Vanessa’s comment, I have two little boys who I love with all my life but I always wanted a little girl for as long as I can remember. Doesn’t mean that if I would love that little girl anymore than I love my sons though.

Congratulations to the Lachey family!
