Scarlett Johansson: Motherhood Is ‘Magical – and Exhausting’

12/09/2014 at 05:30 PM ET

Between her honeymoon phase and complete baby bliss, Scarlett Johansson‘s life couldn’t be sweeter.

“It’s wonderful. It’s very, very magical — and exhausting,” the actress says of motherhood while being interviewed by Barbara Walters for her annual special, The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014, airing Sunday on ABC at 9:00 p.m.

She adds, “The love is just unbelievable. It’s very overwhelming.”

Johansson, 30, who welcomed Rose Dorothy in September, one month before she wed Romain Dauriac, isn’t holding back when it comes to the day to day with her daughter.

The first-time mama admits she’s happy to take on the more tedious tasks of a newborn: diaper duty and late-night feeds.

“[I do] the whole bit,” she says. “I’m nursing and I love it.”

But breastfeeding isn’t just about bonding with her baby girl. “It’s the best way to get back in shape,” Johansson shares.

The actress will hit the big screen next in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which hits theaters May 2015.

I like that she was really very low key about the whole thing.

Nursing helped me lose all of the weight I gained from being pregnant and actually end up a few pounds less than prior to pregnancy….once my son stopped nursing as much I actually ended up slowly gaining weight, despite my exercise and good eating, and could never really lose it. That being said, however, there was a mom in my baby group who couldn’t lose any baby weight until after she weaned her son….so for people like that I’m sure it’s very annoying to hear celebrities say things like this. Everyone is different.

Her body language in that picture is very interesting.

Love the name. Good for her!

@Nicole- I was thinking the same thing about her body language in the photo. She was probably being asked about getting back in shape and felt the need to cover up her ‘belly’! That’s my go to pose when people start discussing baby weight!
