Alicia Keys: Egypt Is ‘Excited to Be a Big Brother’

10/31/2014 at 12:00 PM ET

Alicia Keys is just two months away from giving birth to her second child — and no one’s more psyched than her 4-year-old son Egypt Daoud.

“He is excited to be a big brother,” the singer told PEOPLE at Keep a Child Alive‘s Black Ball at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Thursday night.

“I think he’s super excited because he’s not going to be the youngest anymore,” she shares. “He’s always kissing my belly.”

The 33-year-old, whose second child is due Dec. 31, went on to say that having children has inspired her to work harder for social justice.

“Being a mother has definitely furthered my passion for Keep a Child Alive and just talking about issues in the world overall,” she explains.

My husband [rapper Swizz Beatz] tells me, ‘You should go lay down,’ ” she says with a laugh. “But I can’t. I’m inspired!”

Alicia is so awesome! She uses her celebrity to highlight issues that need a powerful voice behind them. She is a true role model.

Go on girl! She carries herself like she is a queen. Keep it up!

She looks very elegant, but how can she stand those straps? They’re probably made to be worn like that, but I would want to pull them up.

I am so glad Alicia is inspired and that she feels like working. It’s so sweet that Egypt is looking forward to the baby that much. He seems like a sweetie.

I think she’s having another boy!

I’m not excited for that loser husband of hers to have yet another kid; is this the fifth? and he says “lay” down? Does he not know what an intransitive verb is??? Well, clearly not. His children are all raised Muslim, right? Just checking, to see if he is consistent or has been hypocritical.
Egypt won’t be happy after the baby is here.

“If I Ain’t Got You” is a terrific song (love Maroon 5’s version) but “New York State of Mind” and “No One” should be ashchanned forever.

She has great piano chops!

Paris, China, Asia, Ethiopia, now Egypt?? Interesting. I’m sure there won’t be any mixed up in class.

peppy- “Egypt won’t be happy after the baby is here.” How do you know that?! I know this may come as a shock, but not all children are upset and/or jealous after the baby is born. Some, like my brother (who was a year YOUNGER than Egypt when I was born to boot!) , love and dote on their sibling from the get-go!

I hope Egypt’s not looking forward to the new baby because he will then have the upper hand with he or she. But, I’ve got a feeling Alicia will know how to take care of any problems or situations that occur. It’s great when the kids truly love each other with minimal arguments.

Congrats to Alicia and family on the new addition.
