Marla Sokoloff Expecting Second Child

10/20/2014 at 12:15 PM ET

Marla Sokoloff is on her way to having a full house: she’s pregnant!

The actress is expecting her second child with her husband, musician Alec Puro, in the spring, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

“Alec and I are beyond excited to be adding to our family and can’t wait for Elliotte to be the best big sister ever (no pressure!),” the mom-to-be tells PEOPLE.

Sokoloff, who recently wrapped a guest run on The Fosters, has been considering expanding her family with Puro, the composer for Manhattan Love Story, since the couple’s 2½-year-old daughter’s first birthday.

But at the time, Sokoloff, 33, had only just gotten her groove back and decided to wait a bit longer before giving Elliotte a sibling.

“Obviously Alec and I want to have another child and talk about adding to our family all of the time, I just think I maybe need another birthday to pass before we start the real-deal discussion,” she wrote in a March 2013 installment of her blog series.

Sokoloff and Puro will celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary next month, after tying the knot during an evening ceremony in Beverly Hills in November 2009.

Check back soon as Marla shares more about her happy news in her latest blog entry.

Congrats to them, and what a cute little girl they have! Agree re the bigger gap, have to do what works for you. I have an almost 3 1/2 year age gap and am pleased it worked out that way personally – can’t imagine the chaos of two under 18mths or so!! (and it’s no guarantee they’d be best of friends anyhow, depends on their personalities imo)

Marla and Jenna are by far my favorite celeb mom bloggers because they could be written by your best friend. They are so easy to relate to, and also realize that they are lucky to not have money issues and can spend more time with their little ones than other moms. Marla’s blog about her daughter’s medical condition helped me when I got scary (ultimately false) diagnosis about my daughter and I will always be grateful to her for that.

Louise Brown- Well, she has a very pretty middle name (Anne) to fall back on if she decides she doesn’t like her first name. 😉 And personally, I don’t see why Elliotte can’t be a girl’s name as well as a boy’s name.
