3 Tips for Having Healthy and Glowing Skin During Pregnancy
Those pesky pimples. That dry patch. The dark circles.
While every mom-to-be fantasizes about basking in the benefits of pregnancy hormones — hello, flawless skin! — sometimes that dream takes a bit of work before it becomes a reality.
To help your beautiful complexion reach its true potential during pregnancy, we’re getting skintimate with Sian Sutherland, the co-founder of Mama Mio, a line of luxurious beauty essentials for expectant moms.
From a quick mini massage to a morning breathing ritual, she’s sharing her top three tips to achieving that gorgeous glow.
Check them out below!
1. Treat your face to a massage: Kickstarting your skin’s circulation boosts lymphatic drainage to send puffiness on its way, and gives your skin the extra oxygen and nutrients it needs to stay happy and healthy.
So indulge in a little pampering in the form of an extra minute at the sink or splurge on a professional facial (like our Gorgeous Glow balancing facial)!
2. Don’t pick: We know how irresistible it is to have a go at spots, especially during those close up midnight inspections in the mirror.
Our tactic for not touching? A little dab of clear nail polish on the pad of your finger will instantly make you aware that you’re getting handy — and after a few days it just might help you break your habit for good.
3. Relax and breathe: Pregnancy should be a time of joy, but we know that it also comes with its share of worry. Don’t let that worry show on your gorgeous face.
Deep breaths that you feel down in your tummy give your entire body a pick-me-up by offering more oxygen to each and every cell. This relaxation technique also promotes fit, firm skin because this oxygen gets to the cells in your skin, too.
We spend most of the day shallow breathing, with no real thought about getting that oxygen deep into our bodies. Before you wash your face, try inhaling through your nose for a count of seven, and then out through pursed lips (like blowing a kiss) for a count of 10.
Really focus on feeling the breath. Remember this is giving your mind a rest too — think as you breathe “Be here now.”
