Kelly Rowland Poses Nude, Says a Woman’s Body ‘Should Be Celebrated’

10/07/2014 at 03:30 PM ET

Kelly Rowland hasn’t been shy about showing off her growing baby belly.

And now that the mom-to-be — who will welcome her first child “in a couple more weeks” — has taken it one step further and has dared to bare it all, she won’t be paying much attention to any backlash.

“It’s really — I won’t say amazing — it’s Godmazing watching your body carry a human,” the singer, 33, tells Elle.

“I took a birthing class and I was amazed by all the things this woman was saying to me about birthing and what the body does naturally. Why wouldn’t you want to celebrate that? The body should be celebrated.”

Despite her pregnancy, Rowland has continued to maintain her fit figure, which she shows off in the series of stunning portraits, by incorporating cardio, yoga and light weight training into her prenatal regimen.

“To be honest, I did modify my exercise routine a bit by just listening to my body. I would tell my trainer [Jeanette Jenkins], ‘This move doesn’t feel right,’ and we’d modify it,” she says. “I still walk two miles every day. I still work out. It’s important to me.”

Other than the occasional need for cherry pie, chocolate ice cream and peanut butter mixed together — and one week where she was “obsessed” with nachos — the expectant star is happy to stick to her healthy habits.

“It’s fine to have your cravings, but I wanted an easier delivery,” she explains. “All the women that I’ve talked to, that have worked out, have such an easy and speedy delivery. Exercise really helps that.”

She adds, “I like being able to have peaceful sleep at night, though there’s no such thing as that now in the last trimester.”

Just as she’s been flexible with her fitness, Rowland plans to “play it by ear” when it comes to parenting her son with husband Tim Weatherspoon — even if that means bringing along her baby boy to an event.

“Everybody has their normal and sometimes award shows are a part of that,” she says. “I have girlfriends who have that experience and they’ll say, ‘You know, I just really didn’t want to be without my child today.’ And it’s just that simple.”

Rowland is headed back to the studio for an upcoming project and has her eye on starting a boy’s clothing line. First and foremost, however, she’s most thrilled about starting a family with Weatherspoon.

“I’m excited to bring a child into the world, and sharing that experience with my husband is probably the most beautiful part,” she says.

Kelly’s right, a woman’s body is an amazing thing! The Lord God designed women to carry and birth children and that is miraculous in and of itself. But how does posing without clothes celebrate the body? Has the concept of modesty and self respect completely disappeared from today’s society?

Guest on

Celebrate it all you like! It IS amazing!

BUT why does everyone else have to celebrate it with you? Your pregnancy is a beautiful thing for you and your husband to celebrate together.

Enough with the naked celebrities posing on magazine covers already.

I think it’s fine to show a pregnant woman’s body. It’s one of God’s many intents and purposes for our beautiful frames. She looks amazing. I would rather see this any day than Nicki Minaj spread eagle or a waify looking model hardly wearing clothes they are marketing to teens and tweens. This is nature. I love it!

nelle on

She looks beautiful and the pics were tastefully done.

Lala on

Pretty sure a woman’s body can be celebrated, without having to pose naked…

DaisyMoon on

Love the 1st & 3rd shots…
The second just looks odd, like she’s holding a giant ball while spreading her legs.

Totally Jealous on

ugh, she is just too gorgeous…it’s not fair

lola on

The 1st picture she looks like Toni Braxton. These pictures should be for her private viewing. Not a fan of the photos.

Erin on

It should be celebrated, definitely… but in private, behind closed doors, with your partner. The world has become far too vulgar.

Emer on

Is she serious in her comments after breast augmentation surgery? Strange..

Emer on

I agree with the other commenters. Please. We get it. Yyou are proud of your body. Other woman and husbands/boyfriends already know this!!

I don’t think you need to pose nude to celebrate your body.
My body is my temple, and it’s private for me and the person I choose to share it with.

But if that’s the way you celebrate yours, well than good for you. I guess…..

Gunny on

I’d rather see more celebrities in sweats studying – that could be celebrated and have some value to young people.

Liz on

I agree with the comments too. She is beautiful and a woman’s body should be celebrated, but save it for your husband. We don’t all need to see such a private and intimate things.

YeahRight on

I know Lance Gross is an actor but he takes awesome photos. She looks gorgeous!!

A woman’s body should be celebrated and apparently airbrushed beyond belief.

Juli on

Gorgeous pictures! I love Kelly, she is so sweet and level-headed.

J on

Of course my fav pic is the one with her clothes on. Lol but the photographer did a good job

She looks so beautiful and the photos are tasteful. Not everyone who works out has an easy, amazing delivery however…. spoken as someone who has not had children yet…. That is probably how I sounded before my deliveries brought me down to earth9:

I think this is Godmazing. God did not create us with clothes in the beginning, it was only after sin perverted the natural way God intended for us to be that we found the need to cover His creation. In Europe and other places in the world, nudity is no big deal, they have self expression all of the time, yet they have less rape cases, sexual assaults, and child molestation case than the USA. Because they do not think of nudity in a perverted sense or something that is forbidden, it is no big deal to them….maybe we could take a lesson from other countries. I think that she has found a way to encourage women to love the skin that they are in in a classy way. This is not about her using this as publicity (although if she did who could blame her for wanting to get her piece of the pie). Kelly has started a new movement sort to say that remaining active during pregnancy has great rewards for the mother and baby alike. She is simply showing us the results. I say good for you Mrs. Witherspoon!

..more like porn to me….it’s not needed…yuck

Great photos, she looks gorgeous!

Again.. She altered her body. Fine’ but don’t give me this crap and pics of a Fake Body.

DrAnon on

Easily the most repulsive thing I’ve seen this year.

guark on

We’ll see how much you want to celebrate your body when you’re in labor.

sue on

Eww hate those lines I see that pregnant woman get down their stomach. Hoping to God when I have kids that doesn’t happen to me. Looks disgusting….

Debbe on

Celebrated. LOL. You know, what is wrong with a little modesty. That should first and foremost be celebrated. I am sick of women outdoing the other with the pregnant body. Celebrate it in your own bedroom sheesh.

Debbe on

It is always the ones that had some type of cosmetic surgery or boob lifts that says a woman’s body is to be celebrated. Why don’t you celebrate the natural body then, with the saggy boobs?

Debbe on

OH good, then if you want to celebrate a woman’s body, please feel free to pose like this again in 50 years when you are a granny. NOW THAT IS WOMAN POWER. Not when you are young and still have naturally tight skin. Go for it.

veronica cervantes on

Beautiful due to Airbrush.
What about naturally beautiful… that is how we were born.

Mom Of Twinz on

Enjoy this time in your life, I wish I would have done something like this while I was pregnant with my twins. They are my only children, I will never be able to take pictures like this again.

Jay on

Your body is for you and your husband. Ughhhhh.

Anonymous on

I don’t know what everyones problem is. I mean I would never take those photos, but seriously isn’t this a ‘to each their own’ kind of thing? If its not to your taste don’t do it but why does it bother you that she’s doing it? Seriously I don’t get it! As for me I had three short labours and I never work out, I’m not saying working out doesn’t help it just didn’t make a difference for me. Hope her labour goes well and she looks great!

Guest on

Kelly is right, a woman’s body should be celebrated. Good for her!

Jen on

Good for her. You will never look again the way you look when you are pregnant. I wish I had done it. However, I would not put mine in a magazine. Since she is famous, I think it’s o.k.. How else are pregnant women going to feel good about their bodies? Just because their spouse says so? No.

charlotte on

wow, how original.

mypiecesandbits on

She does look beautiful and I would never give any woman any trouble for celebrating her body. However, all of these photos of pregnant celebrities posing nude or photos of them breastfeeding their babies is getting a little old. Its almost become a cliche in my opinion. I feel like it was really something like when Demi Moore did it all those years ago but nowadays its just like “so what”. It would be more surprising to me if they kept it to themselves.

Moz on

Gorgeous photos, kinda phohoshoped though.

Congratulations Kelley. You have nothing to be ashamed of. God created you, and you should celebrate. God bless you and your family.
