She’s music to her parents’ ears.

Megan Hilty and husband Brian Gallagher welcomed a daughter, Viola Philomena, on Thursday, Sept. 18 in New York City, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

It’s the first child for the former Smash star, 33, and her musician¬†beau, whom she married last November in Las Vegas.

The couple announced the pregnancy in March, telling PEOPLE over the summer that they were down to three name choices.

“My mother knits Christmas stockings every year for the new member of the family,” Gallagher said at the time. “She put in one request: She said, ‘Listen, I have arthritis, so the fewer letters, the better for me. If you can do five letters or less, I’d really appreciate it.'”

“We don’t know what she’s going to look like!” adds Hilty, a Broadway vet. “We’re trying to keep it short.”

Looks like they did!

Congrats to the happy parents! I love Megan, and I think the name is beautiful. It’s better than yet another Emily, Kate, Jennifer, Ashley, or any of those names you see multiples of in a classroom, but it’s not so strange as a North, Apple, or any of those fruity celeb names. It’s old fashioned, but unique and pretty.

To each their own…my three year old’s name s Philomena, so some people like it… better than the trendy Madison, McKenzie or Kayla. Bt, hey what do I know? I could care less if people liked my or my child’s name.

Philomena is a beloved saints name that I pray to frequently. Maybe she believes in saints and is paying homage to her. Personal decision for her and her husband. I love the name.

what a voice, what a voice, what a voice. I miss that show. Plots were really stupid but oh the music!!!!!

I hope the name is for the woman in the book/movie and not for a “saint.” Anyway, her name is Vi! And the viola is a nice instrument! she can go by “Ola” too. Good for them. Thank goodness not another Madison (“Medicine”) or Melissa, and thank goodness the middle name is not Grace, Rose, Annabella, Ann…..etc . etc. etc.

Philomena is beautiful, could be Mena for short. I don’t care for Viola

How sad. That is one…make it two ugly names.

What did the baby ever do to mom or dad? Did dad agree to that name?

Marie on

It’s really sad. This name is still not worse that Pilot Spektor.

Awwww…… what a classic and beautiful name!! My cousin is named Viola and my sister-in-law is named Filomena, we call her Femie. These might not be names you hear every day, but thank goodness they did not choose a name that the child will be made fun of like Apple, chair or royal!!

Viola. Sounds good to me. My family is keeping on the tradition of good ole name – by passing along Bea and Mary and Emma and Laura. Why not Viola? Beautiful name if you ask me. Philomena too.

Not fan of the name, don’t think it’s a very good name.
