Why David and Victoria Beckham ‘Limit’ Screen Time

David Beckham learned discipline on the soccer field — and the father-of-four makes sure to bring that lesson home to his kids.

The soccer star, 39, shared that his three sonsBrooklyn, 15, Romeo, 11, and Cruz, 9 — do play sports-themed video games, but he and wife Victoria are strict about their screen time.

“We put a time limit on it. You have to,” Beckham told PEOPLE Thursday at the inaugural Kids’ Choice Sports Awards in Los Angeles, where he received the Legend Award. “No more than an hour. I know that sounds pretty harsh, but I want my boys to be outside playing.”

The couple are similarly vigilant about their children’s involvement in real-life sports, which is a high priority for the longtime professional athlete.

“It’s so important to me that they’re involved in sports — for discipline and health,” said Beckham, who singled out each of his three sons’ strong points. “[Brooklyn] is pretty skillful. My middle one, Romeo, is the quick one; he’s super fast. The small one, [Cruz], is the tough one, of course — being the smallest boy.”

Off the field, when they’re not playing video games, the boys enjoy animated films, including Madagascar and Planes.

And what about Beckham’s youngest child, daughter Harper? Like most preschool girls, she’s obsessed with — you guessed it — Frozen.

“She just had her third birthday party [on July 10] and it was Frozen-themed,” he shared. “My little girl is the biggest Frozen fan ever.”

I changed my mind about how much I like him when I read he left his 9 yro in his car ( air conditioning was on) so that he could do spin class and flirt with the group of women. I’m sure he has his own in home gym.

I like this family.

Shut up Sunny

@Sunny have you ever thought that maybe they wanted to stay in the car? why are you so quick to judge

Sunny- That sounds like it came from a tabloid. If it did, then it needs to be taken with a grain of salt (if not an entire salt shaker)!

Why are people telling Sunny off? She has a right to her opinion. What she is saying is the truth. Even Beckham said that he had left him alone in the car with A/C on but now the rep is trying to say there was a nanny in the car too. There is absolutely no reason to leave a child in a car for over an hour while you do an exercise class. Why not leave him at home with a nanny?

What does it have to do with any of you where any of his kids are? So he stayed in a car, not a crime and the kid’s choice. There are loads of pics of them David sometimes Victoria and one, two or all of the boys going to the gym, so Romeo changed his mind and waited in the car instead. The “flirting with women” is just as unnecessary and shows Sunny to be nothing more than a gossip.

Sunny- sometimes, it’s nice to exercise in a group of people…not to flirt just for the extra motivation. Also, do you have a 9 year old? I do, she is ALWAYS asking to stay in the car when I go in places. She just isn’t as interested as my younger kids with actually going in anywhere (and as of yet, I have not let her, cause I don’t have a nanny who can sit in the car with her 😉 ). I can only imagine how boring she would find a gym to be.
Personally, kids who sit inside watching tv/playing video games all day vs a kid sitting in a car with a adult for a bit….I’d prefer the latter.

Sunny – never heard the story you mentioned, guess you got it from the tabloid.

When I was 9, you couldn’t pay me to get out the car. Just leave me with a good book and the radio.
