Gina Glocksen Welcomes Daughter Daenerys Josephine Paul Archuleta/FilmMagic

Gina Glocksen has her own little idol!

The American Idol alum welcomed her first child with husband Joe Ruzicka on Thursday, July 10, PEOPLE confirms.

Born in Chicago, daughter Daenerys Josephine arrived at 7:47 a.m., weighing in at 8 lbs., 4 oz. and is 20.5 inches long. The couple plan to call her Dany.

It’s been a month full of celebration for Glocksen, who now performs with Ballroom with a Twist — her birthday was on July 4, two days after her official due date.

And while the pregnancy announcement came at a special time for the family — as Glocksen’s mother, Nancy Glowacki, was preparing for double bypass surgery — the couple wanted to wait to surprise everyone with baby’s sex.

“We feel it’s life’s ultimate surprise! I’ve always had a vision of the doctor in scrubs walking into the waiting room telling our family, ‘It’s a ___!’ ” she told PEOPLE in December.

Ultimately, the couple did find out ahead of time — “We caved, but it’s our little secret,” Glocksen said — but eventually shared the sex of the baby via Instagram. The new mom shared the first photos of her newborn on the social media platform Thursday evening.

Umm, cute baby but how do you pronounce the name??

happygirl251 on

@Jay – Dan-air-eees – it’s a character from Game of Thrones…

I just don’t understand this trend of naming children after the manifestation of someone else’s creativity: Katniss, Bella, Daenerys, even Khaleesi (which makes even less sense!!) but I guess people like the ideas/sensibilities that these characters embody. Still, I think it dates your children from the second they’re born – never a good thing!!

Dah-nAIR-is. 🙂 thats the best pronounciation spelling I could come up with. Its the name of a character from the Game of Thrones books. It’s now an HBO TV series. Danerys Targareon, shes know as the Mother of Dragons. dah-nAIr-is or Dani for short.

LOL @happygirl you beat me to it!

CONGRATS to Gina & Joe…Dani is just as beautiful as her name AND as gorgeous as her momma & daddy. Enjoy this new adventure!

Cute baby! And I haven’t watched AI in years nor have any clue what season she was on but I personally find it awesome that they presumably named their daughter after the Game of Thrones character.

Congratulations to them!

why is this newsworthy? who cares about this person, she didn’t even win AI.

Gorgeous baby and the name is beautiful but while I understand the appeal of giving your child a literary name in my opinion this one’s a little too specific to Game of Thrones… you’d never hear it anywhere else. But she certainly does stand out! Congratulations 🙂

happygirl251- To be fair, Isabella with the nickname Bella is a name that’s been around for centuries (to give just one noteable example, the Queen of Spain who funded Columbus’s journey to what turned out to be the Americas was named Isabella. Last time I checked, Twilight wasn’t around in the 1400s!). So I don’t think that name really “dates” a kid. I DO agree with you about the other names, though!

Anyway, congrats to them! Too bad she had such a bad labor experience, though (if you look through the pictures on her instagram account, she mentions being induced and then finally ending up with a C-section). 😦

Good luck to your daughter on spending her whole life spelling it out for people and pronouncing it. You can be a fan of something but doesn’t necessarily mean you have to name your children after characters on the show especially a fantasy show. Cute baby though.

I thought of that name first, doofus! I don’t like ya!

Bella on

And what’s wrong with creativity? @happygirl251 Khalisee stands for Khal Drogo who was her husband that died. Your just as dumb head as the Gina herself because that was our name doofus!!!!!!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

I don’t mind people naming their kids after literary or fictional characters of their choice, but I do think it’s TERRIBLE that we don’t actually know what Daenerys’ (the character) end game is. She could end up being a horrible person and this little kid would end up with a name with really bad connotations.

Well, I have met the Khal and he is wonderful, so I’m sure Baby Khaleesi is in for a wonderful life! Best wishes to the family.

Ugh. How cliche. To Happy:Bella at least is a real name, but I agree, this is an annoying trend.
