Five months after giving birth to Maceo-Robert, Halle Berry is back to work filming her new CBS television show Extant, premiering July 9.

The actress says one of the main reasons she decided to take on a TV role is so she can be closer to her 5-month-old son with husband Olivier Martinez and her 6-year-old daughter, Nahla Ariela.

“I no longer can afford to have the gypsy life,” she tells PEOPLE. “This [show] allows me to stay home and still do something really creative and cool that I love.”

The actress, 47, is also busy promoting her film Frankie & Alice and says thinking of the other working moms out there helps her get through the long days.

“I know I’m not alone. Women have done this forever. We are built to multitask. When you think, ‘How can I not sleep, nurse and work?,’ you just do. We are machines like that. We are built to do this,” Berry explains.

She adds that even though there are long hours on the set of the Steven Spielberg-produced sci-fi drama, being in the same city as her kids is what is the most important.

“My kids can come visit me and I can tuck them in at night,” she says.

I agree, and some dads also.

And…….Having enough money for a private nanny doesn’t hurt either.

I dislike when celebrity moms say that they are just like other working moms. They often have nurseries on set or their nannies are able to bring them to wherever mom is. Most of us work because we HAVE to, not because something sounds “cool.” By the time we pay the sitter and bills there’s not much money left over, let alone a couple of million…

She is one nice looking woman.

I love how celebrities think they have found some secret to parenting…you have massive amounts of $$$, don’t have to worry about paying for daycare/housing/college, don’t have to worry about the sex-offender living 2 blocks away…you have no idea what it really means to be a parent – for you it’s more of a hobby with a 24/7 nanny helper! I am sick and tired of magazines talking about celebrity parenting.

DEE – How worried are you about someone taking a picture of your kids and posting it online or stalking them at their school or stalking the nanny to get them to reveal personal information that may/may not be true so that millions of people are judging you?

I don’t disagree that all people walk a somewhat different path but to say they are not real parents or don’t know what it means to be a parent is a stretch (on a good day)!

This woman has her priorities straight. Halle got it going on. When you have kids and a husband, you need to stay put.

This is very sweet actually.

She can afford nannies so at least its easier for her than average people

This is like comparing apples to oranges!

Gig- Yes, she can afford nannies, but she also has to deal with things we “average” people don’t- such as strange men following her, her husband, and her kids around, getting up in their faces to take pictures and scaring them.
