Yankee Mom Amber Sabathia Talks Kids Fashion, Motherhood and ‘More Babies’

Even while juggling four kids, a growing children’s sports line and the upcoming Major League Baseball season, Amber Sabathia isn’t batting an eye.

That’s because the wife of Yankee pitcher CC Sabathia has a simple philosophy when it comes to motherhood and her work.

“We moms need to remember to worry less,” she told PEOPLE at her CCandy show during the Petite Parade Kids Fashion Week on Mar. 9. “Schedules, planning, busy days — whatever it is, it works out. You have to breathe.”

Another way to cope is to have friends who share your interests. Sabathia’s good pals, and fellow athletes wives, Traci Lynn Johnson and Alexis Stoudemire, sat front row beside their CCandy-clad kiddies at her fashion presentation.

And even though her hubby couldn’t make it to the event due to his busy spring training schedule, the couple always find ways to support each other.

“It’s fun having a line that represents Dad,” says Sabathia, whose kids (Carsten, Jaden, Cyia and Carter) helped design the mini fashions that rocked the runway. “I always joke that I’m a single mom for a chunk of the year, but it all evens out when I want my ‘me’ time or a workout alone when CC is home.”

Sabathia admits that taking care of four little ones occasionally takes a toll, but that doesn’t mean she’s ruled out having another baby.

“I don’t like to say never because you can’t plan everything” she says. “Some days I think I’m open for whatever the future could bring. Other days, when I have two kiddies hanging off of each leg, I might take that thought back.”

In the meantime, the busy mom is hoping to get her and her husband’s music playlists in sync.

“[Mine] is all Beyoncé and his is all Jay Z,” she says. “The only solution is to make a playlist of all of their collaborations!”

Who is this woman? Never heard of her. Another anonymous, who cares, person telling everyone how to raise their children.

Vicki, can you read? The article says exactly who this woman is.

I wish that people who think it’s a great idea to keep cranking out kids would pay a bit more attention to the reality that we are now at 7 billion and counting. Americans are 5% of the world’s population and take up about 80% of its resources. Great job, Dugger mama wannabees, but do Mother Earth a favor. We do not have the resources to keep exploding our population; we live too long. READ. Figure this out.

Ruth, if you dropped the negativity, maybe you can find someone interested in starting a family with you, too. I’m sorry about whatever is going on in your life that makes you say such nasty things. Hope things get better for you.

She made herself look like a fool a few years back on an episode of Say Yes to the Dress. She was helping another player’s fiancee choose a wedding gown and, during her commentary, kept mentioning how so many people look up to wives of Yankees players for style inspiration and general life advice.

It was comical since I’m fairly certain the vast majority of New Yorkers wouldn’t even recognize her if she was walking down the street let alone care enough to take advice from her.

Guest- I couldn’t agree more! Also, if you do some research, you’ll find that the over-population issue isn’t nearly as cut and dried as we tend to think (for example, some countries, such as Japan, are actually experiencing the exact opposite problem right now- people aren’t having ENOUGH children!). Sounds like Ruth could stand to do a little reading herself. 🙂

BTW, if anyone is curious, Carsten is 10, Jaeden is 8, Cyia is 5, and Carter is 3 (this is assuming none of them have celebrated their birthdays yet this year). Not sure why PEOPLE didn’t post their ages like they normally do (I found them on Wikipedia. Not the most reliable source in the world, I know, but I find that they’re usually right about things like birth years!).

I only have one question. Why do 3 of the four children have names starting with the letter C, and only one has a different first letter??? My curious mind wants to know!

I’d worry a lot less if I had millions of dollars at my disposal, too. Does she recognize how fortunate she is?

the 80’s called and they want their hat back … this woman is so full of her self.

If I had more money than I could ever spend in ten lifetimes, I’d worry a lot less, too. Her “advice” is laughable.

Cute story I reckon. Hoping all the wives who have the option of staying home realize just how lucky they are. Sure being a mom is a FT job too, but I’d trade in an unfulfilling/thankless job for that ANY DAY!!! Where do I sign up??!!

Wow! Really people?! I am NOT a Yankee fan, but this woman is doing something positive, not making headlines by falling drunk out of limos, getting beat by her man or any of that other far too common garbage and all you people can do is bash her?! WHO CARES what ages her kids are, why one starts with a “J” when the others start with a “C” or how many kids she has. Do YOU support them? No? Then why don’t y’all try living by that old adage, “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all”

Don’t know who this woman is, she sounds full of herself

CC and Amber have a foundation that supports inner city kids in NY and Cali. They are hugely philanthropic, and very hands on parents. They are committed to raising their own kids to be responsible and respectable , and they invest time and money into less fortunate children. Not sure why people are freaking out about advise to “breathe” , or her hat. Grow up, haters
