Soleil Moon Frye Introduces Son Lyric Sonny Roads

03/12/2014 at 03:00 PM ET

For Soleil Moon Frye, there’s one pretty big advantage of third time motherhood.

“With my first [daughter Poet Sienna Rose, 8½], I was so crazy about making sure everything was perfect,” Frye, who welcomed son Lyric Sonny Roads on Feb. 10, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“I was more laid-back with Jagger [Joseph Blue, 6 next week], and now it’s even more so. I try not to beat myself up. We’re too hard on ourselves.”

That’s not to say pregnancy itself was a walk in the park. “I had morning sickness — morning, noon and night,” she says with a laugh. “And the last month or two was really hard — it was hard to get out of bed, hard to move around. I think because he was so big.”

That’s 9 lbs., 7 oz. to be exact. “A huge baby out of my little body! And he has the broadest shoulders — a total football player,” says the 5’1″ Frye, who was grateful for the “bit of an epidural” she received to deliver her son.

“I could still totally feel my legs, which is great because I wouldn’t have been able to push him out otherwise. It was another level,” she explains.

Frye, 37, doesn’t feel any pressure to lose the baby weight quickly.

“I try not to stress. I don’t want to set a bad example for my girls. I’m not saying I won’t be thrilled to go on some health regimen at some point, but we do fun stuff like Pasta Thursdays and Taco Tuesdays and I don’t want them to feel like Mommy doesn’t eat,” she says.

As for her first son’s unique moniker? It’s a blend of her and husband Jason Goldberg‘s favorite name, a bit of fate and an ode to her late father, actor and boxer Virgil Frye, who passed away in 2012.

“While I was pregnant, we kept seeing the word ‘lyric’ over and over again. We’re big believers in signs. So it was meant to be,” Frye explains. “Sonny was the nickname of my dad and Roads is a name we love. We always wanted ‘Roadie’ as a nickname.”

And Frye, co-founder of crafting site Moonfrye.com and author of Let’s Get This Party Started, is reveling in the help from her two older daughters.

“They’re totally in love with their baby brother. I had no idea how much Jagger wanted another baby. She was so excited not to be the youngest anymore!”

Mommy is pretty happy too.

“Lyric is the most loving, sweet, yummy, delicious baby,” says Frye. “We’re a full house of love right now.”

Cute baby boy…

Whatidiots on

He’s gorgeous! In fact they all are. I still remember her as Punky Brewster. She was adorable back then.

KellyGreen on

So cute! And she’s only 5’1?! Wow! Just shows it’s so hard to tell from pictures, thought she was taller.

LC on

Oh, he is adorable! Congratulations to her on a beautiful family!

Sandra on

My 9yr old recently told me that he was tired of being the youngest and wanted me to have another baby. I had to explain that mommy is too old to even consider having another baby (45) and last I checked the immaculate conception only happened once. He attends a religious school so he totally understood what I was saying.

adorable…. The best of luck to this lovely family…

Lyric is a girl’s name…..guess he will be called Sonny or Roadie….weird…

namelesstrick on

I know of two famous women named Lyric (call Robby Benson; the other one is nothing but sadness) but it’s an unfortunate name for a male, I think. It’s also kind of hard to say, and on the phone it will always be misheard…Kierek? Eric? I like the name Poet. I do feel a little sorry for children who have parents who are “big believers in signs,” but then, you can make anything a “sign” so let;s just decide it’s a way to live a pragmatic and rational life. eh?

Maybe he will go by “Lyre” for short. More likely, he will want to be called “Ric.”

The most notable thing (to me) about these photos is mom’s hair. WOW it is pretty!

ridikulose on

they could have done what another celeb did and name him “Sarek” for Spock’s father….or the name of that alien in “Galaxy Quest.” Babies are humans (duh) and they become adolescents and then adults, and eventually their parents aren’t even alive any more. Fortunately, before that time they can choose any names they want. I love how this piece says that her “late father” passed away. Really? Poor guy, dying twice!

ELC on

A beautiful new addition to the family. My only comment is the strange names she gives her children. Otherwise, Soleil does a great job…her children are very sweet looking.

He is so cute

Congrats! What a beautiful family!

gigimama on

It’s a continual bafflement so many are surprised a woman named *Soleil* might give her children unusual names. Obviously, she doesn’t feel her rare name held her back in life.

Denise on

Sweet!!!!!

Les on

OMG, Jagger is the spitting image of her mother! They are all so cute.

Christine on

@Sandra The Immaculate Conception was when Mary was born free of original sin- not when Jesus was born.

I’m Standing Right Behind You on

I find it very interesting that there are no pics of her husband holding his 1st son and he only gets a brief mention in the article…hmmmmmm.

Cute family!

Her younger daughter looks JUST like she did when she played Punky Brewster. Very cute family.

Carolyn on

Dopey names, especially Lyric for a boy. Why do people have to go off the deep end when they name their children?

Pretty mama and children.

Christine ….. HUH??? Not sure you know what you’re talking about there sweetheart ………………….

What a beautiful family. She just glows!

Alissa on

Love her! Love that she is so open and real about everything. Love that she named her kids names that meant something to her and her husband. I mean her name is Soleil Moon, so she knows firsthand how life is growing up with a unique name. And I actually love them all..Poet, Jagger and Lyric…they all go together.

ava on

What a beautiful baby! I can’t believe Soleil delivered him naturally! You go, girl :)

BAD fan on

Love the name! Such a beautiful family!!

Juli on

I think it’s a weird name (it’s too feminine for a little boy, in my opinion), but he’s gorgeous! Look at those cheeks!

stacey on

Beautiful pictures, but I swear, every picture that I see of Soleil and her daughters, she is leaning in towards her oldest , while little Jagger is off to the side. Poet looks to clearly be “mommy’s favorite”.

Christine is right

It’s important to understand what the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception is and what it is not. Some people think the term refers to Christ’s conception in Mary’s womb without the intervention of a human father; but that is the Virgin Birth. Others think the Immaculate Conception means Mary was conceived “by the power of the Holy Spirit,” in the way Jesus was, but that, too, is incorrect. The Immaculate Conception means that Mary, whose conception was brought about the normal way, was conceived without original sin or its stain—that’s what “immaculate” means: without stain.

Jaci on

The names she chooses….. To each his own I guess…

Such a cute baby though!

Smiles on

Beautiful baby!

Ridiculous on

Sandra, on behalf of your son’s desire for you to have another baby I will (politely, not sarcastically!) remind you that Halle Berry just had a baby at age 47…and Kelly Preston had her son Benjamin at the age of 49…so its not impossible! :)

Colleen on

What creative and beautiful names and such a loving family. I wish them all the best.

Ru on

Beautiful family! Her daughter on the left is her Punky Brewster twin

DD on

Congrats on your newest addition to the Goldberg family!

What fun pic’s of such a sweet family and Lyric is a handsome lil fellow and his sisters have grown up so much. So much fun to have helpful older daughters to enjoy baby brother. Pretty Poet looks to be almost as tall as Soleil and Jagger is a cutie. So happy to see this healthy hollywood family : )

Melinda on

Jonie, Christine is correct. Many people are confused about this but the Immaculate Conception is not about Jesus’ conception.

“The Immaculate Conception is a dogma of the Catholic Church maintaining that from the moment when she was conceived in the womb, the Blessed Virgin Mary was kept free of original sin, so that she was from the start filled with the sanctifying grace normally conferred in baptism. It is one of the four dogmas in Roman Catholic Mariology”.

Janet697 on

What a cutie pie with those so cute chubby cheeks. Congratulations to the whole family and may they all have a long happy healthy life together.

I’m Standing Right Beside You- It says there are two more photos in this week’s issue of the magazine. Jason might be in one of those. And even if he isn’t, I’m sure he still loves his little boy! :)

@Jonie Apology accepted sweetheart

Lili on

To all the people going in about we kids names…. Hello!! Her name is soliel moon frye not Sally June she has an unusual name so I think it’s cool her kids do too… It’s not like they are crazy names like table or pear lol lighten up ppl

blessedwithboys on

@Sandra
If your son goes to religious school, then he should know that “immaculate conception” means the belief that Mary was herself without sin, and not that her son was conceived without intercourse.

katrina on

my son was 9lbs 12oz so I feel her pain. There was so much pressure towards the end I wanted my son out of me ASAP lol

Annie Mouse on

Jonie, Christine is right. People ALWAYS misunderstand the Immaculate Conception.

Bella on

yummy??? Ugh….gross.

Somes on

He’s so cute!

Kimberly on

Awww….what a precious baby boy!!!!

AvaElizabeth on

Beautiful children, horrible names.

Amy on

I love all three of my kids the same, and this isn’t something they have never heard, but the third is different in someway. I think Mom is so much more relax by three and you and your husband are out numbered so you give up a little control. So the third feels it and just has this different unique way about them. Enjoy him and your precious girls.

emily on

what a dumb name

erica2 on

I was not only excited to see the first picture of Soleil’s son, but I was hoping to get a glimpse of her hot husband Jason shame on PEOPLE for leaving him out of the family pictorial.

I think it is utterly ridiculous that some of the commenters of this article can’t understand why a woman who’s name is Soleil would give her children unique monikers…DUH!

Mel on

Can someone explain what a “bit of an epidural” is?

erica2 on

@ ava if someone has a bit of an epidural to deliver a child that is not considered a natural birth. Natural = zero drugs/medical intervention.

Kimberly on

Awww what a cutie pie!! :)
