Bump, set, baby: Misty May-Treanor is pregnant!

The former Olympic beach volleyball player is expecting her first child with her husband, Cleveland Indians catcher Matt Treanor, in June, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

“Matt and I are overjoyed and excited about the journey before us,” May-Treanor, 36, wrote in an email to the Associated Press. “We have been wanting to start our family and we feel blessed to finally have this little miracle happen.”

After taking the sport by storm when she and her partner Kerri Walsh Jennings won their third consecutive gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, May-Treanor announced she would be retiring to concentrate on starting a family.

“It’s time for me to be a wife. I want to be a mom and share time with my family,” she told PEOPLE following the team’s big win. “My mind says it’s time and my body says it’s time, and it’s the right time.”

May-Treanor has since been working as a coach in California.

Walsh Jennings — who played with May-Treanor for 11 years — has three children of her own, Joseph Michael, 4½, Sundance Thomas, 3½, and Scout Margery, 10 months. She will go for her fourth gold at Rio’s 2016 Summer Games alongside her new partner, April Ross.

Congratulations to Misty! I love her, but let her crows feet at 36 be a lesson to all about the importance of daily moisturizer with sunscreen!

Congratulations, Misty!!! Those of us are fans are so thrilled and excited for you and Matt; hope you have an easy pregnancy and delivery, and can’t wait to see your baby! So happy for you…..

Lori, let your post be a reminder that those who think they know everything, rarely do. Genetics play as big a part in wrinkles and crow’s feet as does moisturizing. My fraternal twin and I grew up together, practiced the same skin care, except I was much more careless about it than she was. She had many more wrinkles in her late 30′s than I did, because she took after my mom and her side of the family, and they all wrinkled much earlier (in spite of lots of skin care), and her hair grayed in her mid-thirties. I still don’t have gray hair, and my face is only beginning to wrinkle.

The thing I’m curious about is why the subject even came up. Any fan would know Misty has been wanting a baby for a long time, and this is a time to celebrate! Do you people really think people should have a bunch of plastic surgery, or do you think they look better just being natural. Comments like yours seem designed to be hurtful, not congratulatory. JMHO

Ach, I’m so happy for them! She’s been very vocal about wanting to start a family, so this is wonderful news!

Lori, was that nasty comment really necessary? What in the world does her appearance have to do with this joyful news?

she’s only 36? yikes. should have taken better care of her skin

Aw, congrats to her! If memory serves, she’s been talking about wanting to be a mom for years. I felt so bad for her when each of Keri’s children was born (if memory serves, she’s been talking about wanting to be a mom since Keri’s first pregnancy). I’m glad she and her husband were finally succesful in their own efforts! :)

36?

She seems older, more like 56 or early 60s may be due to overexposure to the sun.

Are people really posting under different names to leave the same negative comment? Anyways congrats to Misty for always bringing home the gold for her country and for the new baby on the way.
