Kate Hudson and Sons Star in New Ann Taylor Ads

01/31/2014 at 10:00 AM ET

Last year, Kate Hudson‘s nephews Wilder and Bodhi were her modeling partners. But for Ann Taylor‘s spring 2014 campaign, the actress searched for costars a little closer to home.

Sons Bingham, 2½, and Ryder, 10, helped their mom reenact a super-busy day in her life as she juggles working as a fashion designer and film director.

“I love the spring collection,” Hudson said. “It captures my life as a working mom and how we all balance those parts of our lives.”

The actress also helped direct the feel of the ads, photographed again by Mikael Jansson, by handpicking her favorite pieces from the collection including a fitted pinstripe button-up.

“I have to say I love a crisp white shirt, any time of year, with anything,” she tells PEOPLE. “[With] jeans. Under a trench. With a sexy black pencil skirt. Even over a bikini in summer!”

Mom Said It

"We weren't trying to have kids. We left it up to fate. I knew there was a possibility, but I was really excited. Even if you are trying, just to see a positive result is shocking!"
