Morena Baccarin Welcomes Son Julius Apega/Abaca

It’s a boy!

Actress Morena Baccarin and her husband Austin Chick welcomed their first child, a son, on Tuesday, Oct. 22, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

Born in Glendale, Calif., Julius weighed in at just under eight pounds.

“Julius and his mother are happy and healthy,” the rep adds.

Despite being breech, the Homeland actress successfully delivered her baby boy naturally with the help of Dr. Ronald Wu at Glendale Adventist Medical Center. He is the only doctor in the Los Angeles area who offers expectant mothers the option to birth a breech baby in a hospital.

“I’m so happy I was able to deliver with Dr. Wu,” Baccarin, 34, tells PEOPLE. “Breech delivery is a dying art and he gave me the birth experience I wanted.”

The Emmy-nominated actress announced her pregnancy in May.

breech delivery is a dying art? holy hell!

She’s so gorgeous and I bet her son is beautiful too 🙂 it’s too bad she’s wasting her talent on such a horrible hatte-propaganda show that fortunately no one is watching. No matter how many awards they give the cast, still no one watches which gives us all hope for humanity yet.

Yay!! I am so happy for her, I’ve had a girl crush on her ever since she played Inara on Firefly (Browncoat signing in!).

The fact that she found a doctor willing to deliver her baby breech, is amazing. My only child was breech and I was told that since she was my first, I couldn’t deliver breech. I didn’t have the birth experience I want because of that, so I’m very happy to hear that she did!

Congratulations Morena!!

To Rose: No one watches the show? I watch the show and although the first season was better than the second and third season, it’s still a good show. If no one was watching the show, they would have cancelled it already.

I watch it too 🙂

Um, Rose? Better check your facts again pronto. Homeland is the #1 show on Showtime with 6 million viewers and was renewed for another season. Appears as though YOU are the one not watching it…because 6 million of us are indeed still watching and loving it.

@ Rose . . . “no one is watching”? Where have you been? The show is incredible! Most people I know are HUGE fans.

Great job….most women would have had a c section with no options. Wonder if he takes HMO’s

Ouch and congrats

Very true that vaginal breech birth is a lost art. OB med students are taught to perform C-sections for breech presentation. Happy for her and baby Julius that she was able to have the birth experience she wanted.

I am really impressed that she did her research and opted for a natural delivery, despite her baby being breech! Kudos and congrats!

There is a reason that breech delivery is a dying art…ITS DANGEROUS!!!!! The largest part of a newborn is the head and shoulders. When you deliver a breech baby you risk the head being too large and getting stuck.

Jennifer- Sometimes, yes, but not always. It depends on the size of the baby, and the position he or she is in (there are several different types of breech, and some are more dangerous to attempt a vaginal delivery with than others) as well as other factors.

If you know what you’re doing and take the neccesary precautions (mainly delivering in a hospital with a doctor who has expertise in vaginal breech deliveries), vaginal breech delivery can actually be quite safe!

Anyway, congrats to them, and I’m glad she found a doctor and a hospital willing to allow her to avoid the knife!

Anonymous, since you have zero children, I am not sure where you get your “information” from. As she mentioned, her Dr is the only one in LA, who delivers breech babies vaginally. This is for a reason. It is very, very dangerous and can be deadly. I don’t know a singly person who delivered a vaginally breech baby. All ended up in csection because it most likely never occurs. It is not “quite safe.”

Other anonymous- I said it CAN be safe in certain situations, not that it always is. The problem is that doctors today don’t seem to realize that and tend to automatically perform a C-section for any baby that’s breech.

At any rate, neither of is really “right” or “wrong”. Here’s an interesting article illustrated that:

Also, as for where I get my information when I don’t have kids…well, let’s just say I don’t read for nothing. 😉

Dying art? Wow…

@Rose: How is Homeland “hate-propaganda”? It’s a story, it’s fictitious, and it doesn’t in any way serve as a proponent of terror. You are a silly noodle head and I think there are other indicators that humanity is struggling more than whether or not a TV show airs or has followers. Think a little bigger, please.
