Mark-Paul Gosselaar: Baby’s Name Is ‘Not Traditional’

Mark-Paul Gosselaar will soon be trading in his golf clubs for a diaper bag.

“My wife is two weeks away from giving birth so hopefully I’m not going to miss that today,” Gosselaar, 39, told PEOPLE at the 14th Annual Primetime Emmy Celebrity Tee-Off on Monday.

Eight months after tying the knot with advertising executive Catriona McGinn, Gosselaar — already dad to Ava Lorenn, 7, and Michael Charles, 9½ — announced that he and McGinn are expecting their first child together.

The Franklin & Bash star kept mum when asked if the baby was a girl or boy, but Gosselaar did hint, “I’m sure our baby will play golf.”

The proud parents-to-be already have their baby’s name all picked out. “It is not traditional and it is not too quirky. It is different, but it’s not something odd,” he shares.

Gosselaar may be the star of a TV show, but when it comes to balancing work and a growing family, he seems to have his actor, husband and daddy duties down pat.

“We have a great support system and we have two other kids who are extremely excited to have another child in the house so we’re going to be just fine,” he says.

Can’t wait to hear the name.

Slow news day? You couldn’t wait two more weeks until the baby is born to tell us this?

yes because we all know girls can’t play golf. WTF People.

His wife looks much older than he does. I’ll be interested to hear the name but it doesn’t really matter what the public thinks as it is the parent’s choice. Let’s just hope their little one likes it as much as they do.

My guess is it’s a boy. As for the name, maybe Palmer or Woods? (as in Arnold and Tiger)

‘Different Gosselaar’. Or ‘Not Traditional Gosselaar’. Could have been worse, I suppose! LOL.

I hope he means by traditional, he means a NORMAL NAME! I’m so sick of these celebrity types coming up with the stupidest names for their babies. I feel awful for these kids when they get older…I mean growing up with names like “Blanket, Rainbow and Pilot Inspektor (yes, that is how it’s spelt) Good lord people….think of the kids, not yourself!!!!!

I actually was in line behind him in a Starbucks in L.A. and he had both his kids with him. He was SUPER nice and he seemed like a really loving dad. He even held the door open for me when we wound up walking out at the same time and I had to force myself from not screaming, “ZACK ATTACK!! FRIENDS FOREVER!!” at him. :)

Akm, he was interviewed. That’s kinda what happens at events!

Jack, um….you clearly don’t watch golf.

well if he wants a very different name americans are used to, he can choose a very dutch name like fopo, klaas, aad, wevers, jouke…. to name a few :-)

Anonymous- Really??? Tell that to Paula Creamer and Annika! My golfing daughter has been told by more than one golf pro that her swing is much better than most of the boys she golfs with including her golfing brother. How about as a society we empower our young girls.

Mid life crisis @you? Hardly! His wife of 13 years, cheated on him, and married the host of Survivor. What’s a guy supposed to do? Stay single and cry over it every night? Good for him, for finding love again, and being a hands on dad, to his other two kids.

Let me clearly spell it out, since you are all razzled and we are on the same side. One should try reading AND comprehending.

My comment, Jack, umm…you clearly don’t watch golf. Was in response to this comment.

When asked if they are having a boy or a girl, he wouldn’t say, but said, “I’m sure our baby will play golf.”

I come from a long line of golfing family. My daughters play as well. My daughters do everything the boys do. Next time try and slow down instead of getting in a tizzy
